Why do some people base your supposed experience level on how many posts you've made?

I have noticed in a few threads recently that weren't entirely civil a few remarks to the effect of "because you would know all about that with only, let's say, 300 posts". (obviously said sarcastically) Now I understand suspicion of new posters, particularly ones who straight away start slagging someone off or asking ridiculous questions, but how can you judge how experienced a person is based on their number of posts? Everybody has to start somewhere. If Pippa Funnell started posting on here, she would start with no posts. She then might decide not to post that much and so wouldn't have many. Obviously she is an extremely experienced horse-woman, so who are we to judge in such a way?

Sorry, bit of a weird post, but it's a bit of a weird way of judging someone.

I happen to remember the comment you are referring to, in that instance the poster didn't comment on equine knowledge, it was a comment on the other poster's experience with the HHO and its occupants :)
So, yes, I think the number of posts and time spent on here actually did matter.
 
I just think some people need to remember this is a forum and not always a place of facts. At the end of the day its you horse and your life and just because some one says jump no one should be saying how high and it what manner. I tend to find some people take it as fact on here but anyone can come and post on here.

However this is a great place for information sharing and getting ideas and genuinely sharing experiences and concerns

Agree (NOT that you know nothing, Mrs M!).

Some people can post 300 + and much of it be drivel ( I have subscribed to telling it how it is for the day!), whereas I think if Pippa Fox-King posted once or twice even, her posts may have a little more substance to them. Unless of course it related to common sense and/or responsibility, when even she would be shot down in flames ;)

It wasn't just one particular comment, I have seen several since I have joined and some were in reference to a bit of advice given with regards to bits/riding/exercises etc
 
I am new to this forum yet have owned and been around horses for over 20 years. I certainly don't claim to know all there is to know about horses and come on here for other peoples advice and to hear other people experiences. The horse world is one where no one, no matter how experienced, knows everything there is to know about horses as every horse, owner and situation is different. I come here to hear friendly advice and although some of my questions in the past have recieved posts where the opinions were worlds apart, I don't consider one person to be right and the other to be wrong. I read all advice with an open mind and then find the most suitable advice for me, my horse and that particular situation. I don't post often and find it unfair that newbies or those who don't post often are considered less experienced or don't know what we're talking about. I find 99% of posts on here friendly and helpful, enjoy learning new things, reading others experiences and have to wonder why some posts can get quite catty. If you don't agree with what someone says then just see it as their opinion, whatever works for one person and their horse doesn't mean it's going to work for someone else. Sorry for the long post!

I am useless at putting things down on a forum, I post my reply and thn think "does that make any sense?" I have owned horses about 30 years but would be the first to say it doesn't mean I know it all, no one does and its a shame not everyone realises that.

Horses teach us something new everyday. No one will ever know it all, no matter how many posts they have made.

Today I learnt that just because she is 13.1hh, it doesn't mean my daughters NF can't jump a four foot high post and rail fence to get to her neighbours haynet when hers is finished......horses aren't as daft as they make us think.......lol
 
I make my judgement on the content of each post not the amount of posts. There are a few people I have noticed on here that don't post much and a few others that do, but when these people do make comments/give advice they come across as very knowledgable and something to take note of.
 
lol! but how about the old 'empty vessels' saying?
I have made a fair few posts and generally it's me asking stupid numpty questions or talking *******s!
 
It's true - this place either scares the wotsits out of me or reduces me to headbanging, uncontrollable rage resulting in a desire to post sarky and facetious comments. I find it best to stick to what I know best....cruddy tv, pretty men and inane gibberish :D
