So a week ago I was approached by someone looking to sell a mare or this horse would be shot as the owner had no use for her and wanted her gone. So, I viewed her and agreed to trial her as she seemed nice and had barely anything done bar being backed.
I spoke with her owner and arranged for her to be dropped at my livery yard today, fine.
So he turned up nearly two hours late to drop her off, whisked her into the stable and left with barely another word said about her.
Ten minuets later after feeding and worming her I left for the night to allow her to settle in. Passing him at the shop he decided to scream at me I was a horse abuser and he shot off back to the yard where he recollected the horse (after hitting her quite a few times, and his father who came with him) screamed abuse at the yard owner and got kicked quite badly after hitting the mare.
But apparently I am an animal abuser as I didn't rug her, he had previously told me not to as she does not wear a rug out in the field, not wanting to suddenly throw a rug on a horse who isn't used to one, in a new yard, I had decided to leave it until tomorrow to see how she accepted it.
The man says he now plans to shoot this mare as he has done with many surplus to requirements animals in the past, why is there nothing that can be done about people like this owning animals! This mare is only young and has plenty of potential but now will end up dead.
The only comfort I can get from all this is that she's better off than she would be with this horrible man.
