Why do the pro's take out same horses that have already qualified...?

I can understand getting mileage under the belt of a young horse etc, but I have noticed a lot in showing (especially in hand) the same horses are brought out over and over again, even though they have already qualified for everything, even if the show has no qualfiers. I love showing, and know that the pro's will nearly always win, but how on earth do the rest of us break into this elite circle? It would be nice if those that manage to qualify everything in the first few months would step aside for a few shows and give us mere mortals the chance at a championship. Don't get me wrong, I am happy to stand reserve to a better horse, and I love what I do, but it can be disheartening when you know you will never qualify because "so-and-so" is there. Ok, sorry for the moan

Pot hunters in a word except that with entries having to be made so early I suppose they cover themselves by entering everything they can and then don't/can't substitute or get entry fees back. I know what you mean but it does make success all the sweeter when you do beat them!

but surely the qulification goes down the line if the winner has already qualified?
Think of it like hickstead you wouldn't qualify and then not jump your horse in any comps before hand just because you'd already qualified would you? - Don't forget these people make a living by advertising their skills on the day!

I think its great that there are so many pros makes the success even sweeter when you finally beat them
