Why do they always find me?

My pony Lucy has a very rare illness and if she survives she will probably have to be retired. I need a horse for my job i nanny for two kids and have to take them riding and hunting. My boss has kindly said i can keep two here. I don't realy have any money anyway but with lucys vet bill i have none at all. I have managed to borrow some money and have bought a new pony. He is called herbie and is a 12.3hh 8 yr old new forest pony. He was bred on the forest and acording to his passport he was only gelded last year. His last owner said he used to buck but she had sorted it out. It didn't bother me he was lovely when we went to see him he was so quiet. I fell in love with him and even said i had the same feeling i had when i went to see Lucy 12 years ago. We bought him home and the first two weeks where lovely i hacked him out on his own and in company. The only thing was he acts a bit riggy with mares. (i have bought a tub of rigcalm so hopefully that will help). Then yesterday i went to ride him out on a ride we had done before and he was so nappy. He just kept deer leaping and would not walk on. I worked him through it with some assistance from behind and made him walk round and round the grainstore over the road untill he stopped napping twords home. Then today i went to clip him and he was terrified. As soon as i turned them on he started rearing up and kicking out (not at me though just in sheer terror) I ran the clippers near him till he calmed down and stopped panicking. Obviously he wasn't introduced to the clippers propaly and i have a feeling he was beatern up as well considering his reaction. I feel so sorry for this pony i am his 6th owner and his last owner only had him about 7 months. He is so sweet the rest of the time but he has just had the wrong owners that have let him have some bad habits. When he deer leaps he isn't tring to get me off they just arn't big enough for that he has just got away with doing it and now it is his habit. I know i can get him through this and i'm shore he will be a lovely pony i know if i hadn't have bought him he would have probably spent the rest of his life going from piller to post but i just want to know why they all end up with me. Lucy was dangarous when i first got her. She was destind for the meat man now she is the best pony ever it took a long time but we got there in the end and we have the most amazing bond.
Sorry for the long rambling post but i am feeling down right now and have no one i can realy talk to about it and wrighting it down makes me feel a little better. I know i can work herbie through his problems and he was so cheap i didn't expect a perfict horse it just seems i always have to sort out everyone elses mess.

I reckon, any horse that you have to fight for, hurt for, lose money for, cry for, means that when it all comes good, and you persevere, the reward and the bond you have with that horse is so much deeper, as you say you and Lucy have the most amazing bond. You dont need any advice you sound as if you are doing everything right, am I would love to hear when you have some successes with your new pony x

firstly, what a fabulous job, and lovely boss you have!

secondly, i'm sure you'll get loads of brill advice from people here. he's still only new to you, and maybe a little love and patience will give him the confidence he needs.

I appreciate why you are feeling abit out of sorts. With having the experience and work with Lucy, you know exactly what you have ahead of you with Herbie and that there will be no over night change with Herbie. You are anticipating the work you need to put into him and you appreciate it won't be easy!

However, chin up, have some faith, in Herbie and yourself. You will get there in the end, and when he comes right, you can be proud as punch at what you both achieved!

Thankyou to you all for your kind words. I know it is not going to be easy but i also know it will all be worth it in the end. Atleast he is not as bad as Lucy was. Everyone just told me to have her shot!!! And i truly beleive the reason we have such a bond is what we went through for the first few years i realy had to gain her trust in everything. I will just take it one day at a time and ofcourse i will give updates on how he is getting on.

he must be luckiest pony in the world. he's found you, and you care enough to persevere with him and not just pass him on again.

In 2001 i bought a 7 year old new forest. in the first few months he galloped off with me whenever i asked for canter, galloped at jumps & either took off 3 strides out or slammed brakes on at the last minute & eventually dislocated my shoulder by pulling so hard!

In 2006 i had to sell the best pony in the world to start uni. he was riding club senior showjumping reserve champion (at only 13.3hh & not going to one of three shows) & i trusted him enough to do RDA. he still galloped off if the words "dressage" or "showing" were mentioned but he won M&M whp at the local county show due to his amazing jumping.

It was the same pony & just shows what time & work does. he was a nightmare when i bought him but amazing when i had to sell him & i want him back soooo much!
