Why do they continue to breed in Ireland???

@grumpyoldmare - I agree all our horses are not perfect I would never say they were.. Indiscriminate breeding should stop but it involves education which again boils down to money which lets face it we don't have alot of :( so lets hope the downturn starts to weed these people out! I'm just trying to make the argument here a little more fair :)

@missyme10- Sorry got a bit confused in my rant! :) Yes I understand your point completely now.. It just still amazes me how the price difference is between two countries which are so closely connected?! Anyway.. I agree we have a problem and I hope it will be addressed soon :)

I would be delighted if the Irish dealers brought in a better class of horse and I cannot understand the economics behind what is happening. It has been evident at sales over the last couple of years that only the ''very cheap'' horses are coming.

The dealer mentioned is a regular at York and I have not previously seen him at this particular venue

Absolutely nothing against Irish horses--Cuffey is my horse of a lifetime imported at 3yo after purchase by dealer at Ballinasloe Horse Fair, he has taken my son to PC Champs 5 times jumping clear XC on all occasions.

Could it simply be....we keep the best ones for ourselves??:D

Seems people overlook this aspect as well! They expect the cream of the crop to make it to england - there are still buyers in ireland for good talented horses as well ;)

Imagine the criticism and slagging that would go on if I posted "Why do they continue to breed in England???" :p

Yes, people do breed some awful horses. But less and less "backyard" breeders will be doing that, as there are simply no money in horses atm!

Would love to post an eloquent yet chastening reply to OP's waffle ,unfortunately I'm far too incensed. So to the aforementioned half wit $* £"! %^&$ $%^£**$%
