why do they do it? (hi vis)

Of course not Pedantic - you were just conducting a safety check:D Well done that man!

I almost took out two riders not long ago - we were on a tiny lane on a sunny day - they were in shadow and I was in sun. They had no high viz on. I was not driving fast at all - vey slowly actually, and I am very aware of horses, but they were invisible.

I would hate to hit a horse, it would haunt me. The horse has no choice over going onto the road, and as such riders have a responsibility to keep them as safe as possible, just the same as making sure they are healthy and that their tack fits.

If an adult rider wants not to wear high viz and gets squished - well, that's their lookout, just as it is for dafties that go riding without hats, and I won't weep for them. But I do feel sorry for the horses (which generally I prefer to people anyway...):(

Pastie2 - I think it may be your comment about "taking lemons out of your mouths" and your inference that if you are in total control of your horse means you don't need hi-viz (so by implication those of us who choose to wear it lack control) that has irritated people as much as you choosing not to wear hi-viz.
No-one is suggesting that hi-viz can prevent accidents, just that it gives you more chance to avoid it - just as wearing a seatbelt won't stop all fatalities but will help in some cases.

Your arguement for not wearing hi-viz seems flawed to me - we certainly have cars in the countryside round here and more accidents happen on country roads than anywhere else. What it seems to come down to is that you don't want to wear it. That is your choice but I'd be very cross if your horse ended up on my bonnet because I couldn't see you.

*breathes and thinks of fluro nipple tassels again*

Now, if you could make them spin in opposite directions, that would be very eye-catching!

**composes letter to the BHS to see if this can be incorporated into the Riding and Road Safety course**

Nothing like a large pair of tits to lighten the mood, just watch "any"carry on film :D, I now have a vision in my mind of Babs Windsor on a horse in loads of viz gear and her boobs falling out uncontrolably everywhere, with Sid James dirty laff :D

Mmm Anti Pastie, they were a **** group from the 70's or was it the 80's, mmm anyone, starter for 10, must hurry you (mimsical smile) yes snodgrass Oxford..........

It has been suggested that pink and/or orange is better on greys or other pale colours because the contrast is greater, from what I have seen this does seem to be a bit the case.

My grey wears pink. She glows and that makes me :)

I don't care how daft we look, I get spotted. People tell me I stand out :)

I thought you were actually meant to wear Hi viz off road too in case the air ambulance needs to spot you?

I just don't get the attitude. What is so wrong and difficult about putting some Hi Viz on.

do you think I should start mass production to be ready for the huge demand?

You might need to sell them with safety goggles - I mean, I'd be ok but if the more generously endowed ladies get a good spin on, somebody could lose an eye;)

HAhaha!

Its a bit wrong that my creation cannot be best appreciated on me. Good thing is, I have a massive arse, so I can sucker them onto my cheeks and ride jockey style if that helps?

I got caught out by the resident farmers riding in a not so stylish outfit combination of shorts, half chaps and boots today.

I think my lack-of-tan-from-english-winter legs being exposed in public act similar to hi-vis atm....! :p
Better than yesterday when it was shorts and barefoot, me hacking about bareback on the cob!

Reckon the tassles would have added nicely....haha

They could be used to signal direction changes too - left spin = left turn...:D

Obviously there will need to be some with flashing lights attached for darker evenings later in the year...

**drafts group application for Dragons Den**

If you think about it, surely you are more likely to have drivers unused to your local roads in a rural area than the suburbs.

Suburbian drivers tend to go "out" for a nice drive around rural areas. Little lanes they have never been down before, with blind bends and high hedges, whilst arguing with the MIL and keeping one eye on the sat nav.

So surely more likely to meet an unfamiliar driver on a rural road?
