Why do they roll in the snow?!

Why do horses roll in the snow? My horse hardly ever rolls normally but rolls continously in the snow!

dunno but it was funny watching mine go down to roll realise how cold it was and jump back up again rear up then go down to roll again!

I suppose it's like sand or fresh shavings, but my horse has never been so clean - rugs don't look bad either!
