Why do track systems make horses move more?

I have noticed that since we've put our horses on one they move so much more! And they trot/canter more which is fab.

Why is this?

It's been mentioned many times.

I have no idea why they move more - they just seem to have more purpose.

I'd love to have a track system with different surfaces for them to walk on - but I don't think livery yards around here are ready for that kind of thing yet ;)

I think they have fence following tendencies, especially as ours have had years of training that electric fences have the propensity to move and offer more grass. In this instance following the fence can carry on a bit longer! :) the palo in particular is a great follower of paths when ridden and I think she carries this on into the field.

I put frank out on his own yesterday.. he walked all the way round just to see is his girl friend was hiding round the corner maybe.. then stood and neighed at the gate

oberon.. we have some pea gravel but they seem to spend more time upside down in it then using it for their feet :p
