It occurred to me this morning why we do it!

There are so many despondent people saying they are rotten riders and lost their confidence, going to give up etc etc that it makes you wonder why we persevere! I know, I am one of those riders - loss of confidence after a nasty fall, new horse problems etc.

But this morning had a lesson (which I do most weeks these days) with some much better riders than me :p and we did some (little!) jumps. I have been getting more confident jumping and feel we have come on a lot. Well, instructor says I am looking very well balanced and confident, which makes him jump better. Then she says "Well done, that was PROPER jumping!!!"

Still not come down :D:D:D:D THAT'S why we do it! Onward and upward! ;)

I do it because every now & then i forget my shattered confidence, my lack of riding skills, my worry over every slightest thing and i come back from a ride and nothing has gone wrong, nothing has scared me & i have thoroughly enjoyed myself.

This then reminds me that i love everything horses.

Because they are completely non-judgemental, they take you for who you are and they react to how you deal with them.
They don't care if you are fat/thin smart/thick into the latest fashion or not at all, if you treat them right they'll respond.

I do it for the little neigh in the morning, and the little nuzzle on the shoulder to say hi. :)

Not strictly the same, but my stock answer on why I made a life with horses is the following.

The world needs people like me too. We all have that one family member or friend that's a little off in living life. A life with horses is just that. So I am that person for my family and friends. LOL!

Why do anything. I can't see the attraction in going to the gym but loads of folk love it. I like pushing myself to be the best I can be on a horse. Why not.

I do it because it is the most uplifting feeling in the world just being on the back of your horse cantering through the fields or up over the mountain and its just you and your horse....you seem to forget your worries for a little while and enjoy a little bit of life :D that is when he is behaving himself lol ;)

I do it because I think back to late June July when I had a skinny, sad shell of a horse and now I look and see the most beautiful healthy boy ever - he is so loving and always greets me with cuddles. I know I did the right thing fighting it and that's why I do it :D

Well I dont care whether I ride well or not and never compare myself to others....it is just me and my wonderful horsey. He lights up my day whenever I see him, I love his smell and I love his interaction with me...and that is all that matters and that is why I do it....because I could not be without him.
