After numerous discussions with my husband he just cant understand why I own horses! His opinions are why would you have a hobby that it costs u the price of another mortgage to be freezing in winter, knee deep in mud and all the hassle that comes with livery yards

He got me thinking, on paper it really sounds like a daft hobby lol! :D

So why do you enjoy having your horses?

To share a relationship with an animal who could easily kill you, but they don't want to is pretty amazing.
They are wise, loving, smart and just good therapists.

Honestly, I couldn't imagine myself without my horse.

As a ponyless child I always wanted my own and got one/them!! as soon as I could. I love them, I love the connection I have with them, and enjoy the care and daily management - even the poo picking. It keeps me fit and it keeps me sane. It can be hard in winter sometimes, but when I have had a bad day at work (regular in my job) then it helps to tramp around a field in the dark before I go home! I don't need to go to the gym. My OH is actually very understanding, and he also loves them.

I really enjoyed bringing my young boy on from the half wild loon to the 1/4 wild loon that he is now!! Theres plenty to say, I don;t kjnow what I'd do if I didn;t have them (have a life, go on holiday, get fat......)

My OH doesn't understand either, as he puts it why do you get up at 6.30am to play with poo in the middle of winter! However I don't understand his obsession with the gym, each to their own. I know I'm a much nicer person to live with when I'm allowed my horse fix.

I love horses because they are the most amazing and beautiful animals on this earth. I have loved them since I was tiny and will always love them. They make me laugh, smile and tear my hair out in equal measure. To me it's not all about the riding I also take pleasure in looking after them and just being with them. I AM A HORSE ADDICT xxx

I once got stopped by a dog walker who asked me why I had horses. I said that it's like having a great big herbivore dog but we can do more fun stuff together. :D Dog owner was surprised when I explained that she (the neddy) recognises me and that she loves going out for hacks, just like a dog loves going out for walks.

Lol!!

Hi, I'm Laura, and I'm a fully fledged horse addict :)

I love them, I grew up with them and have always been around them.

I lived without them for 6months whilst I was moving and found I was miserable without him.

I miss the youngsters when im not at my mums, and I don't need human company, I always choose to spend time with my horse instead (nor for want of a social life, more that I can't be bothered with it lol!!)

I see so much more of the countryside than anyone else I know, Due to spending hours upon hours covering miles and miles, and I find them unbelievably beautiful and worthy partners.

I(I'll stop gushing now LOL!!!)

I might be constantly skint, but they're worth it :):):)

My horses keep me sane, I would be pretty unhappy without them and wouldn't know what to do with my time :o

I don't see my horses as a hobby as it does change your lifestyle.

My work colleagues do not get it either. They can’t understand why anyone would get up at 6am every day in all weathers out of choice. Lots of reasons for me:

1) The outdoor life - as an office worker it gets me outside every day of the year in all weathers.

2) Building a relationship and mutual respect with half a ton of horse is amazing.

3) A childhood dream come true.

4) Personal development through challenging myself to improve my riding, compete etc.

5) Personal Therapist - I think of nothing else when riding and with my horse. The stresses of work and life just melt away.

6) Reason to live – sounds dramatic but having a horse gave me a reason to get out of bed in the morning after my baby daughter died 10 years ago. Unfortunately I remain childless and my natural instinct to look after someone is fulfilled by caring for my horse.

7) Social life – our yard has a good atmosphere and I have made some great friends over the years. Everyone is very supportive and encouraging.

I lost my first horse last year and had a three month gap whilst looking for a new horse and I didn’t know what to do with myself. I think my husband hoped I would get used to not having a horse as I actually cooked meals and done housework. I hated being horse-less!

i love my horses! I was horse less for a couple of years after having my daughter but i always found that i was missing something. I tried to replace this with the gym, going out, shopping but when i got my daughter a pony i realised what was missing.
I love my horses they always welcome me at silly o clock in the morn, pleased to see me, comfort me, i can talk to them when im down (sounds daft but they listen and dont judge), keeps me fit, sane, healthy, outdoors and from shopping (cant afford to). They are just like big dogs that is what i say to people.

Same here, basically I love them and they make me happy.

Now only a horse person can understand why, you could explain various reasons until you were blue in the face but no words can do it justice, unless you have experienced owning one of these wonderful creatures and the partnership you have with a horse, they will never ‘get it’.

I've grown up with horses but I certainly appreciate them more now then I did as I was growing up, over the years the characters you come across the problems that get thrown at you, you realise what you have and what they have tought you, the person you have become, all because of the horse.

pretty much for all the reasons above but also my horses don't judge me. they don't laugh at me if i'm upset, they aren't nasty in any way shape or form but if they were then it would be because of something i've (or previous owner) done.

they calm me down, they cheer me up, they accept me for who i am and don't worry about me not having the poshest clothes/car/house etc!

my horse is my soul mate. he is the closest thing to pure freedom a human could ever get. i still cant believe they share themselves with us. all that power and emotion and yet they can be as light as a feather. i love to just watch them, watch how they move and carry themselves. they are amazing creatures. all that power, grace and beauty harnessed with a saddle, bridle and a firm bond. soppy i know :-)

My horse keeps me smiling :)

Ive got chronic pain and other health issues. I would feel lost and lonely if i didnt have my horse, he really does make me feel better and even on the really really bad pain days he always makes me smile :)

^^ Same with me, took me until I was 36 to be able to afford my girl, its not just the buying as we all know but the keeping them in an acceptable lifestyle!

Thankfully my husband lets me enjoy my passion, he thinks I am a crazy lady, but leaves me to it !!

She is my childhood dream, and I cannot imagine my life without a horse in it..

If we didn't have The Shoe, sharer would need leg transplants, or rollerskates.

If I didn't have Ice, Beau would get lonely and have no one to pick on as only Ice is daft enough to be scared by the big numpty.

If I didn't have Beau, Lottie would be over worked, she's 31 for pete's sake!

If I didn't have Lottie, who else would have been my best mate for 16 years regardless of uni, job changes, house moves etc???

If I didn't have horses what would I do?? How fat would I be and how boring would weekends be? What do non horsey people DO at the weekend? Me and my sister once tried to have a 'normal' day with no horses but got bored and rode about 2pm!!

The flippant answer is because I don't want to mow 50 acres of lawn;)

The real answer is: Because I can, and I quite like them really.

I have my ponies for my sanity! I love being outdoors, the sense of achievement when you accomplish something is amazing, when I have a really good schooling session the world just melts away and I find it a lot like meditation. I love that I can get out to see lots of our beautiful countryside, and that feeling of galloping up a valley with the dog racing alongside is like flying!

I love being outside doing things with the horses, everyday is different, and the love and tranquility they have around them makes me calm.
if i did not have the horses, i would prob me a sofa surfer, with a drink problem, and i would be a serious miserable cow
