Why do you prefer the type/breed of horse you have?

I love my tb....I have learnt so much from her. Always realised she was smarter than me...since then got on great!!
Before I had an anglo arab - fantastic little horse.
My first horse was a Welsh D - cheeky little ***!
I currently also ride a warmblood and a cob...they all have their own personalities and talents...variety is the spice of life.

I love my Appaloosa x Cob because he has such a fantastic temperament and always makes me laugh with his antics. :) He is also the type of horse who will turn his hoof to anything and although he can be quirky, he is my horse of a lifetime and I wouldn't swap him for the world. :)

Unfortunately, I don't know the way he is bred but just by looking at him it easy to tell that he is at least 1/2 Appaloosa. He is a bit more stocky than a purebred Appy so he must have some Cob in him somewhere too.

He has lots of Characteristics of a typical Appaloosa so I am now a big fan of the breed and wouldn't hesitate to get another Appy. They do have a reputation for being a bit stubborn and aren't always the easiest horses to work with, but once they have your trust they will do pretty much anything for you. :)

ISH is the bees knees if im honest :o

i love him he has an awesome character, hes bold willing and always wants to please

is quirky so is always interesting to ride :) bomb proof on the roads but spooks at acorns being run over :o and he loves to be loved without being needy although does get jealous of other horses if im talking to them :o

Mine are a mixed bunch - Love them for who they are.

Admire Arabs for their versatility always dreamed of owning one but never had the money so have a half bred who is my soul mate :D

For me it's Welsh D's. Incredibly clever (not 'thick as two short planks' as one poster put in the other thread about which breeds you don't like) and I like the challenge of working with madam's 'views' on things. They are versatile and my mare does everything I need her to do and does it as well as the bigger horses she comes up against. However I'd like to see somebody getting on her with the idea that she is 'thick' manage to get a good tune out of her, cos if you rode her with that attitude she'd soon show you up!

However I'm not a fan of the 'modern' D's which are finer and more araby for lack of a better word. They need to be proper chunky D's for me!

I like cobs cos they're a challenge and dumb bloods cos they're so trainable and don't argue like the cobs do . I like to have one of each so that I can have a laff riding the cob and then remember how a horse should go by riding the dumb blood!

For me, attitude and personallity are more important than the breed. I like a horse to be kind, genuine, intellegent (I wouldn't be able to tolerate a dimwit for long) and game. I don't mind quirky as long as it's kind-hearted.

I like something with a turn of speed that is also up for it as I like a good gallop but don't feel right kicking a horse along - it's got to want to do it! Jumping wise, it has to be clever and think for itself, I am not a good enough rider for a horse that needs help every step of the way and I am too much of a wimp for a crashing fall! I also like a bit more scope than I need/ will use and again, the horse has to want to jump.

Looks wise, I don't mind a plain or common head as long as its on a well made body. That said, I'm not keen on wacky or over large face markings, wall eyes and white above the hocks and knees. I like a horse to move straight too, not flashy, just straight and correct. I am not fussy about weight, build or bone.

Breed wise, I like arabs, arab crosses (I used to look after and arab x cob, he was stunning and the most intelligent horse I've ever met!), TBs, TB /pony crosses, ID and ID crosses, but most of all, you cannot beat a good Heinz 57 pony! I have never been that keen on warmbloods, but recently found out that one of my best horse was a kWPN x show pony

I currently have a Hieinz 57 pony. He was sold to me as a connie cross and opinions on what he's crossed with and whether or not he has connie in him at all have varied, what makes me wonder is the fact that he has a German name! Any how, he good fun and super sweet with plenty of ability for me!

For my next horse, I think I'd like an arab (as an allrounder ) or one of JG's, but only if she has one available that's not grey!

I have an arab and he is my first horse. I think the breed is utterly beautiful and size wise about perfect for me. I think my boy is fairly typical of his breed and he just suits me down to the ground. I have endless patience because no animal can frustrate me the way my little children do, so any time spent in his company is just relaxing - however spooky he is - I just enjoy it.

I like a challenge and didn't want a real plod, but at the same time, he is my first horse and so I didn't want something I couldn't cope with. He is perfect, keeps me on my toes (or on my bum in the mud quite a lot of the time) but doesn't have a mean bone in his body, loves to please and I just feel like we get closer and closer.

And I do enjoy a good gallop and so does he.

I love my tb's! They're intelligent, can turn their hoof to most things, willing to please, responsive and once you've got that bond, they'll try their best for you!
I'v also got an idxwbxtb who is very dominant and keeps me on my toes more than my tb! He's full of character, cheeky and gorgeous to look at! He's a very chunky boy too.

I love shires and clydesdales, they're gorgeous too (although I'd look like a pea on one!).

i have a shire x tb and she has a wonderfull temperment and is very intelligent but before i had her i had a ID he also had a lovely way about him but i have always had heavy types of horses as thats what i like there are certain horses that i am not fond of but wont say lol

This is gonna sound self centred, but I don't care what breed it is as long as I can say it is mine or my kids/OH, we have 12 all mixed breeds from wb to dartmoor hill ponies to friesians, we can't want for any more tbh, but most of all there are ours and we fit them.

I have a traditional coloured cob. It's always been my dream to have one but I would have been laughed out of pony club in my younger days! He's extremly comfortable to ride and, as a bonus, is a proper showman. Also, as I am a well rounded, middle aged woman, his backside is bigger than mine!
On the other hand, I love big, old fashioned TBs. Super comfortable to ride and, usually, able to turn their hoof to any job. Plus, their gallop has to be experienced to be believed! I'd look ridiculous on one now, however, as an arthritic, size 16 rider :(

I have a 2yo New Forest filly. I chose this breed as I have arthritis of my lower back so the height, type, action and temperament shouldn't hurt my back too much. Saying that, NF's can turn their hooves to anything and hold their own competing against much bigger horses (BRC Open XC Champs 2009 was won by a 14.1hh New Forest, there are JA showjumping NF's, FEI Dressage Pony NF's, just as a couple of examples of the breed's versatility). They are low maintenance, and I love their friendly but cheeky personalities.
I've also just bought a 3 1/2yo Welsh D. I saw a photo of her and just HAD to buy her :D. I've always loved the breed and always wanted one. I prefer the old fashioned type of Welsh D, rather than the taller leggy ones that look more like a horse than a cob, these are sadly becoming more common.

I dont particually like or dislike different breeds but I like big horses over small ones just because of there strong build I would probally have to say that my favourite breed would be a hanoverian bay because they are basically allrounders especially if they are broken in well:D.Right now we have a Australian pony, QH x, Irish Draught, Appoloosa, Clydie x,Miniture pony and a Friesian x that is pregnant;).So really I dont care much what different breed they are I like them all the same.:)

My old boy "dice" was an appaloosa ( had to be with that name ), he was a fantastic horse.
Very opinionated, kinda mule like in his thinking, he knew his job and wanted to get on with it. Once you had his respect though, he was the best horse, would do anything for you. Very athletic when he was younger as well.
15.3, so not too big to get on either :)
Current boy is a TB. I'd never had any experience of them before, so I don't know if hes typical, but hes intelligent ( acts dumb sometimes ), quick to learn, very freindly and funny, he really likes acting the clown.
He thrives on work, and is forward, but safe.
He does have poor feet, so is on a 5 wk shoeing cycle, and he can be a bit "speshul" sometimes, but I'd be hard pressed finding another as good as him ( esp as cheap as he was :D )

I always thought I'd get a Morgan when I finally got a hoss for myself , but I'm also very fond of Natives - particuarly Welsh C and D, and New Forest. And I have a thing for Fresians.

We've got a Welsh A and I'm just about to accumulate a Cleveland x something (looking at build and height I'm thinking the cross is Welsh or Connemara, it's only 15hh) - and a Welsh B. They're all lovely animals with lovely personalities.

... By accident. Was looking for a big cob (I am quite tall) to hack out and have in working livery. Ended up with two warmbloods in full livery !

I didn't choose my 2, they just kind of ended up with me:D TBH their breed isn't important it's their personalities which have won me over, welshxtb is an absolute sweetheart, if you want a cuddle and a chat he's your man:D ISH mare comes across as a miserable old moo but once you get to know her and she lets you 'in' she's a very loyal partner:D
with my daughters ponies, one she chose as a foal, comes from the same breeder as the welshxtb and i just love what she produces. the other is unknown breed but when we went to view him we just knew he was right, with him it's all about suitability rather than what 'make' he is:D

I like cobs cos they're a challenge and dumb bloods cos they're so trainable and don't argue like the cobs do . I like to have one of each so that I can have a laff riding the cob and then remember how a horse should go by riding the dumb blood!

There are a lot of things my WB is but he is not not argumentative! He will argue black is blue if that is his opinion. He is however very trainable, if you have explained what is in it for him, try forcing him and that is another matter completely.

I don't choose a particular breed just whatever does the job its needed for - I definately wasn't on the hunt for a coloured cob when looking for a pony that could jump a decent height for my daughter but that's what we came home with & by heck does he do his job!!!

A good warmblood will take the better points from a number of breeds, after all that is why they were developed.

My boy (Belgian wb) is mostly tb as far as we can tell (sire was full tb). He has the thoroughbred speed and stamina and the only penalties we have xc are for going too fast. He has an effortless, ground covering gallop.

He is completely trainable, will never say no and will try his heart out for you. He has beautiful 'warmblood' paces and this, with his conformation, makes dressage relatively easy. He has a scopey jump and is very quick and careful in front. He is bomproof to hack and doesn't spook, if he sees something unusual he wants to go up to it and investigate it when all the other horses are snorting and spooking :)

He is also the easiest horse to deal with on the ground; hates being clipped but I can forgive him that as he is perfect in every other way.

Of course I cannot tell how much of this is 'nature' or 'nurture' but I would certainly look for something similar in the future. If buying wb I would prefer a breed with an open stud book like BWP.
