Why does EVERYTHING have molasses in it?

Another vote for Fast Fibre! Just switched to it and it's great! No molasses, low sugar and starch and you don't need to feed all that much to give them all their daily vits and mins. Every time I've found a compete fibre feed that I think will be suitable I have to feed something ridiculous like 9 scoops of the stuff a day (big horse and might be slightly over exaggerating... :p). With the fast fibre she only needs about 2kgs a day (just over a scoop) and because it swells up so much she feels like she's eating more. Also great for adding supplements to and getting a bit of extra water into them. I can fault it personally:)

Minor rant alert. I have a 21yr old Welsh Cob - he's had one nasty bout of laminitis in his life but other than that we've managed to keep it under control. Sadly he has recently developed arthritis but an MSM supplement is helping hugely (vet agrees), so we now give him a very small daily feed of a handful of hifi life and a sprinkling of cool mix. However in spring/summer I am anxious to avoid him having any molasses for fairly obvious reasons so I need to find something other than the cool mix. No problem I thought, there's always something like Happy Hoof or Safe and Sound but no, they all contain molasses!! What really shocks me is that so many feeds are laminitis society approved but still have molasses as the third ingredient. I just don't know what to give him - I just need something cheap that will taste marginally more exciting than unmolassed chaff so he can gobble down his supplement. Any suggestions/commiserations gratefully received.

Fast fibre is good for disguising supplements but after the recent icy spell i stopped using it as was paranoid the morning feed would freeze. I've just started my two fussy mares on thunderbrooks herbal chaff and they both love it. It smells delicious!

I feed A&P Fast Fibre and Thunderbrooks Herbal chaff for my laminitic, good doer native.

I've tried a few, but this is what he seems to like the most.

i draw a bucketful of water in the evening and leave it in the tackroom if I think the tap will freeze overnight. :)
