Why does hi-viz stuff cost a bloody fortune?

Surely as it's safetywear it should be cheap. I remember when tabards were £4 and you often got free ones in promotions and stuff. Now you struggle to get one for £10 and they cost even more if they come complete with Blackpool illuminations down the front and back.

Anyone know why safety costs so much?

Because sometimes Britain is an ass. lol

I agree they should be cheaper, after all you're not only looking after your life but the life of drivers etc.

I know at one time I think it was the BHS and the MOD were giving them away - worth googling

Well, equine safety clothing costs so much because well....everything with horses does!

But...if you know anyone who has a Makro card etc, you'll find workwear high viz safety gear is actually very cheap.

BHS only had limited stocks and I applied but got nothing

I agree Patches that horses cost a fortune, but places like Tesco that market themselves as selling cheap stuff never sell hi-viz. I could probably buy a riding hat cheaper than a set of hi-viz things for the neddie

Totally agree. Would be great if they'd stock that type of thing at Tesco or the likes.

Am I right in thinking that the work wear range is VAT exempt too which is one of the reasons it works out so cheap?

Edited to add....I'm wrong! LOL It's safety wear that's VAT exempt...steel toe cap boots, hard hats etc.

Here's a cheap vest at Screwfix

You should be able to pick up tabards & hi viv jackets really cheaply off maket stalls. If you want ones printed with horsey logos on the back then quad the price.

Ebay seem the cheapest for the hi viz boots & exercise sheets.

As we are all aware as soon as something is made for the 'equine market' the price trebles. This is obviously because we are the 'rich horsey set' with so much money we don't know what to spend it on!

Ah but the question is... does your bum look big on that?

If it does then I'd be mad at spending £9 too!

Nah, tis daylight robbery. Then people complain because riders aren't making other road users aware of their presence

Britain's on its' ar*e

Ikea sell high-viz waistcoats for 99p - come in yellow and green from what i can remember.
I bought my mum a yellow waistcoat from a local market store for 2.99 just before seeing the ikea ones.

I got a load of hi-viz stuff direct from V-bandz as I wanted a flashing tabard, and I have to say they have been very good. It was well worth the extra money as I'm now highly visible, day or night, and it's put my cheap stuff to shame.

At the end of the day it is extortionate but what price your life?

We happily pay out a fortune for new rugs for our neds that at best will last a few years, your hi-viz stuff should last you a lifetime, without it your lifetime might not be that long.

I was going to say this too. They had tabards for £4 and bomber jackets for £13, brilliant bargain. I get my stuff from Costco, or from a local building suppliers. I got bands for his legs from Sainsburys, they're made for cyclists I think. Equestrian clrearance have some cheap stuff too.
