I brought my collie for a walk today and was walking with her alongside the river. i turned around and saw that she was rubbing her head against the grass. i have seen her do this once before but i ignored it. this time i went over to see what she was rubbing against and it was the remains of a fish!!!!

why would she do this?????? wee minger lol!

thanks for any advice!

Dogs love to roll in all things smelly!

Its something to do with disguising their own smell to help hunt prey.

Henry does this too - I have baby wipes in the car at all times, v handy. Or you could just do as I do n extreme circumstances and chuck the dog into water...

What I don't get though is why roll in fox poo? I get dead things disguising smell, but surely fox poo just smells even more like a predator smell?

Maybe you could try buying some of that dry shampoo powder and keeping it in the car so you can clean her up before you go home and she won't stink out your car/house? I am so glad my dog has never wanted to roll in anything smellier than a patch of daisies... although she does eat the foulest things... :s

For some strange reason, the best thing to get rid of the smell of fox poo is tomato ketchup.

Yuck they are vile aren't they! Lizzie was rolling in the maggoty remains of a dead bird last week...then went back the day after and ate it

Or vinegar, which is a bit less messy!

Goose Poo is a favourite of Otto's, he amazed me last week actually, as there was a dead, manky, half-rotten rabbit and he just sniffed it and carried on mooching about!! I expected him to at least pick it up!
