Why does my horse lick me?

My horse licks me whenever she can :o

She is like a cat with a kitten, makes a really good job of it! She doesn't mind bare skin/clothing and also licks my hair ( I prefer the clothing :eek:) She will go on and on with it when I am in the stable with her.

Just wondered if anybody else's horse does this, or does anyone know why she might be doing this!

Incidentally she has a salt lick which she uses, so I don't think it's that :p

I dont know, my mare used to lick me a lot and i quite liked it!! I always presumed that it was a bonding thing, she had access to a salt lick aswel. My legs seemed to be her favorite place!!!! :D
 
Perhaps a mixture of salt, affection and interesting smells of humans. I have a 'cool stick' (what's the proper name?), lavender scented, and my mare drools over me when I wear it. She also likes resting her chin on my head and doing deep breathing.
 
Ooh I was wondering about this last night, big boy licks me all the time and now the lickle boy has started doing it last night! They only ever lick my hands or bare skin and one can't have taught the other as they are stabled away from each other...

I think it's cute and probably have a misguided idea that it's because they like me lol :D
 
My boy does it too, although it seems sweet, it does end up driving me mad. Sometimes if I only have to pick feet out, feed I'll nip straight from work and try to keep clean but he licks my coat, trousers, and follows me round the stable and then to the door while Im trying to make a lick free escape. Ive tried saying No sternly, pushing him away etc etc but its like he just cant stop it!
 
My youngster does this, but he will do it to most people.
I don't mind but I do have to stand with him when we have the farrier as he licks your back when doing his feet :o
