This has probably been done to death, but I was thinking today whilst mucking out my horse's stable that maybe if people put on the forum odd things their horses do, then there might be people on here who can enlighten them as to the reasons why. I also thought it would be interesting to find out odd things other peoples horses do, and see if others horses do the same odd things. (if you get what I mean!!!)

So i'll start, my horse always holds up a front leg when he does a wee

!?!?

Lol! How unusual

My horse always has to wave his foot around when he's eating his dinner/ breakfast.

Squeals out loud when he has an injection or you stroke his stomach area at all

Has to chew his leadrope/ headcollar on the way in .

My horse backs his bottom into me and lifts a hindleg to have his legs and belly scratched. He then starts chewing and snapping his teeth at the air.

what a great thread!!
My mare does this all the time! she mostly kicks it over and sticks her whole foot in the bucket and tips it everywhere but lately she just seems to be picking up her front legs and waving them about

my horse follows me down the field every day when i poo pick then when i get to the bottom i say 'go Vinnie go, go, go' and he bombs it up the field really fast and then comes back to me i guess its some kind of game

My horse will try sit on my knee . . . no really! If im sat on the hay box or on the chair and hes tied up nearby he will literally back himself right up and lift his back legs one at a time and put them on my knee!! Everyone at the farm thinks its hilarious! He also "talks" as i like to call it. A weird little noise when he wants something! Iv never heard another horse make a noise like it!

A gelding who needs to chew on his leadrope initially once I put his headcollar on in the field, does it for about 10 secs and then lets it drop (FB's does too I see...)

Also, sees me arrive in my car of a morning (I see his head over the stable door looking at me then he disappears) and then by the time I get over to his stable he's having a wee...every day he does this, why is he waiting for me before going?! Is this a Pavlov dog thingy or just a peculiar pony?!

One of my mares always piddles on her hay if put on the floor/field. Then turns round to it and discards the stuff she has wee'd on! Why????

9 times out of 10 my daughter's pony will have a really big stretch when you take his rugs off - his elbows almost touch the ground.

Also, he does about 98% of his poos in the same place in his stable - very handy!

In the morning when I go to feed him, he goes to the back of his stable to have a wee before eating.

My horse paws with his front hoof when he eats his feed, and when you groom him he likes to turn his head right round to see what you're doing.

They're so cute

My pony does that too!!!

Love this thread!! One of ours picks up his empty feed bucket and chucks its over the stable door at us in the morning... Yes, we get the hint, breakfast time. He also leads himself in and out with his lead rope in his mouth. Huge character. Keep posting, as I love to read what other peoples horses do. thanks

We have some brilliant ones at the yard. There's a TB who, if you leave a broom propped up outside his door, will take the end of it in his mouth and wave it around. Another TB, when he wants some attention (or food!) will start gurning, opening his jaw really wide and sticking his tongue out the side of his mouth. There's a mirror on the wall outside his stable and he licks it really enthusiastically too.

I think he loves his reflection. Bruce the Welsh D will, if he isn't sure what something is, poke it with his front foot for a while and then stomp on it...

Scooby pulls the funniest face when he's scratching his bum on a nice rough brick wall. He pulls his lips back and wrinkles his nose, he looks really weird. I must get a photo of it one day.

Why does my horse like to pick my butties up shake them about have a chew and then spit them out.She will also drink anything that I am drinking and will put her tounge in the cup and won't leave you alone when you have a cup in your hand. She also likes to lick my hair when I am picking her feet out.
