Why does my Polypad slide from underneath my saddle?

Everytime I gallop in forward seat or jump the polypad insists on screwing itself up underneath the saddle, an albion legend xc. I have done the girth up

! Anyone had this problem or solved it? Too be honest all my numnahs attempt to do it including griffin high wither etc but these are anchored in place by straps!

Sounds like there is more mobility in your saddle that would be ideal, especially when you are taking the weight off the back of it. You can buy some very thin non slip pads that go between the numnah and the saddle that might stabilise it, but what you may also need is somebody (saddle fitter maybe) to watch what is happening when you are up out of the saddle - my guess would be that the back is flapping around.

Thanks for your reply It was reflocked 6 months ago, but she is on the lean side for her at the moment so maybe it is time to get the saddler back. When you look at recent photos it doesn't look like the back is lifting because I have seen photos that people have posted and you can see daylight underneath the back! This picture was the other week (excuse rubbish position) but this is the sort of time I would expect it to lift off the back.

I had a similar problem when my horse suddenly lost weight i brought the prolite saddle stays and have one under the polly pad and on top and it never moves now.

mine does to but if I wear a breast plate it does help a bit. I went round one course and when I finished there was about an inch of pad under saddle and it was flapping behind!n my daughters Ive sewn straps to hold it in place (the ones the girth threads through)

It sounds as though the saddle is too wide in front and is dropping too low when you are in forward seat sending the numnah behind. This could be either because she has now lost weight of muscle below her withers.

I note it is an Albion - what breed is your horse? The panels actually seem quite high (although it is hard to tell from that picture).

Love your horse's colouring!

She is a tb x welsh D. What do you mean by panels quite high- do you mean as in overstuffed and that they should be softer and flatter type thing- sorry not a good way of putting it, what effect is this having? I notice you mention albions too-funnily enough it was the lady who we use an an osteopath who is quite well respected, Annabel Jenks who really liked the albion and thought it suited her back, because we mentioned going to look at a stubben jumping saddle and she was like no way it suited to her conformation!

Albions are suited to TB types - I was just wondering if yours was more of a high wither narrow sloping back type of horse.

It is hard to see in the picture as obviously you are in mid jump but the panels do look a bit high. Do you have any better pics?

every time i have used a polypad they always slip, and i know my saddle fits, i never use one with my wow now, but they drive me insane!!

I use a poly pad under my event saddle as I obviously cant use anything with straps! And as long as I pull the polypad up at the wither and forward enough and secure my girth tightly quite quickly when on it never slips. Am about to buy another white one for comps and a navy one for at home as I like them so much! The one I have is on its last legs!

It seems to be a common problem with some makes of jump saddles - no matter how much you pull them forward/up into gullet/tighten girth they still slip right back.

If you have a saddle where it slips then tbh I don't think you will be able to change things, you will just have to use a different pad.

It is a bit hard to tell from the picture, but she looks like she has quite a forward groove which wont help as that will try and pull the saddle forward when you tighten the girth.

I would need to see a pic from behind, without any numnah to see how the panels fit along her back.

It actually does look to be sitting too low in the back from the pic - is this the same time frame as the jumping pic?

yes this was taken only a couple of days ago, other was a week ago. If it is sitting too low at the back then it would then be impossible to fit the saddle because you would either have to raise the back or lower the front am I right?, neither of which is feasible as you said the panels were quite high anyway, and there is not room to lower it at the front. Eek I don't want another saddle, it takes me so long to find one that accommodates my hip to knee length, on a budget and that fits the horse. I won't be able to get a picture from the back till tomorrow as at uni today- that was just a picture i happened to have with me I don't generally carry around pictures of my horses behind!
