shake his head around and more or less have a tantrum when i ask him to slow down on the way home? is it simply a pony tantrum?!

Mine does this to a certain extent. I think he just wants to get home quciker than I want him to go.

pretty much only on the way home and only if i slow him up! he gets v tizzy after a gallop and then continues to do it all the way home. he's a monkey!

Use your weight rather than your hands to slow him down. Hes probably complaining because you are pulling his mouth. Teach him to respond to the weight aids first, with minimal hand and he should stop doing it

he sounds if he's enjoyed himself and eager to get home, I think you could try differant routes each day if possible so he's not to sure where he's going home each day.
