Just today I have had two people reply to my ad for my horse who im trying to put out on full loan, its clearly stated full loan to be taken away in the add as I have no facilities such as an arena which horse would benefit from. First one from a 12 yo asking how much is it per month, then 2nd one saying she would like to come along and ride horse or even brush it as she has a horse at a farm nearby, dont really know why you would want to brush someone elses horse when you have your own? I wouldnt even mind if they just kept him for the summer then gave it back so i get the hard work through the winter! Just a rant really !

I found the opposite problem, I wanted a full loan but due to me having my own horse I wanted one I could move but people were saying well you could loan him but he has to stay here, I tried to explain I couldnt be in twop places at once and with children work dogs home and other horse doing two horses at two different yard wasnt feasible.

In the end I gave up asking.

thats the thing if you look through for loan ads they are 90% either share or to stay at current yard. I was even looking into sending him to a local equine college for the students but they want the owners to pay to keep the horses there, erm no chance mate!

I had the same problem when i was looking for a full loan. I already had my own field which was 5 minutes away from my house (I don't drive) and all the ads wanted to stay at current yard or share. In the end, I put my own ad up on Horsemart and got my lovely TB which I have had for over 4 years now and will have till the day she goes over Rainbow Bridge :)

...I wanted one I could move but people were saying well you could loan him but he has to stay here...

Exact same problem I was having. They either didn't want their horse moved or they agreed on a move, but changed their mind last minute and said "You can loan at this yard". Would be ok if yard wasn't 50 mins away.

Luckily I found somebody who can no longer ride so was putting the horse on full, permanent loan. Their only stipulation was that the new yard was within a certain distance so they could visit from time to time.

There are people out there looking. Make sure you check the 'horses wanted' ads, too.

I do!!

Been looking for a while, looking for a share, part/full loan, anything to get me started!!

Ditto coldfeet, was considering full loans but most want the horse to stay at present yard, which I guess I would want if I was full loaning my out, but not really ideal for me when they're a 40 min+ car journey. When I've put ads up asking for a full loan, I've also had people approach me with shares!

I'm now waiting til Spring to buy my own as loans seem to be few and far between!

I had the opposite problem. I spent ages looking for a full loan, in the end I bought another one, which I had said I wouldnt do

Most the loans I looked at had behavioural issues, which were often the reason the owner was putting them on loan (and most likely not for sale) and I didn't want to work through these problems for the owners to turn round and go "thanks for bringing my horse back into work, getting it fit and stopping it from doing X, now I can sell it".

Then there were others with confirmation issues which suggested they wouldnt stay sound once they were in work and yes then there were the large number that wanted horses to stay at their current yard.

I'd, maybe take on a full loan- depending on several things first.
We have met a new safer horse for my daughter recently. The reason I like the idea of loaning was that the owner has made a huge point about the horse being part of the family and that all they want if for it to have a new little girl (theirs are adults) to love and have fun with it BUT at the end of the day if we move it she must go back to them if too old/injured etc. I actually love this peace of mind that a horse will always have a home especially as am currently trying to cope with my old unhappy horse- life would be so much easier if he had a guaranteed lovely home for life 5 minutes away!
If on the other hand she was 16hh and they went on about loving her id be less interested in case they turn round and want her back- the fact she's outgrown a family with no more children likely is in our favour.

We recently both put one on full loan away from my yard, and took one on full loan at my own yard.
Both done through word of mouth. My daughters pony is perfect in all ways but has stifle problems so was essential she went to someone prepared to put the time in to get her fit and the soundness should follow, and found a lovely family in the same village as my place looking for a first pony for teenagers, but capable of doing pony club things too. I do not have room to keep 4 at my place, and also family needed part livery.
We were looking for something to replace her but take my daughter further in show-jumping. Happened to be chatting to someone my daughter works with who literally as we spoke, just took a call to say the loan horse had come available unexpectedly and owner looking to loan him again. So,he came to us.
There are people out there, I think you will get the right person, too, but it may take a while to get it right for all parties involved. I do think some flexibility may help, as said family for pony came and tried her a lot, and only took her from my place when they were totally happy she was exactly what we said, which did mean I struggled for a couple of months with too many horses as the new one had already arrived as I did not want to risk loosing such an ideal opportunity for my daughter.
Good luck.

I too have been trying to loan my horse out for over a year now ... can stay or go .. had 2 people so far want to keep him here then only bother turning up 2 or 3 days a weeks ... and usually after they know I have done stable duties.
My problem is have lovely safe allrounder but he a "stallion" ;-(

I'm looking for exactly that at the moment! Have put wanted ads up and looking for either a horse to purchase, full loan or loan with view to buy - open to any of them. Not having m,uch luck though. Most of the ads for loans i've seen they have to stay at current yard which is no good for us as our yards at home so must be able to move to ours.

I think this is another big reason!!!

I was looking too but folk are cautious about loaning a much loved horse as they are concerned that the horse may be injured or ruined.

I've given up now and will just focus on my stroppy rescue mare this year and see how far we get.

I would consider one on full loan as a second horse, but it would be a case of coming across the ad rather than actively looking at the mo. I would want it to be a really sensible type possibly a veteran which I haven't seen up for loan much. Just 4 year olds with behavioural issues! I am not sure how people come to have these young horses they want to loan out, unless they bred them in which case you'd think they'd have the experience to iron out the problems.

I have tried for ages to find a loaner for a super schoolmaster, very quiet to do, nice nature etc etc. Several stumbling blocks - firstly loaners not wanting to have a legal agreement (!!!), one said that he was too old at 15 when she claimed to need a confidence giver for light hacking, and one very special person said that she would 'take him' unseen if I would deliver him 300 odd miles away. Suffice to say, I gave up and he is now a field ornament as I felt that was a better option than risk the loan route.

Sorting the time wasters and charlatans totally puts you off I am afraid.

I have a lovely 17h show jumper. Who I was trying to put out on full loan as I have no time to do him justice ATM and didn't want him sat in a field. I stated on the ad that he was not fit and needed bringing back in to work and added a few pics of him jumping. The ammount of people who wanted me to send them a vid of him jumping round a course recent and when replying saying again this horse is not fit. I was met with " oh can you not just put him round a small course". These are not the type of people I would want so I guess it did me a favour and he is now at a riding school who use him for advance clients and he loves it. Not over worked and gets loads of fuss :)

Another one who had the opposite problem - all wanted loan at present yard. Ended up waiting a very long time for my mare on full loan that could move yards , now I've been offered her and am buying her :D would just buy one straight off next time for the time and money you put into them.

Well I would have put my mare out on full loan for hacking albeit she would have to stay in a close radius to where I can check on her. However, there are so many awful stories about horses disappearing that I would not advertise her now. While it is a pain that owners stipulate staying on premise, you only have to read some of the sad threads with old or injured horses being sold on (sometimes as meat) to see why people take that route. I would mention it to everyone you know, maybe stick an ad up and say references available. There is a chance my mare may well go out on loan in the spring, but its local and its a friend of a friend.

I've been looking for one on loan for quite a while, but like others need it to move to our current yard. Only people I'm getting calls from is for young ish horses (which is what we are looking for) but haven't been sat on for 6 months & they only want on loan for 6-12 months (ie, want daughter to get them fit & started jumping, then will take them back :( ). Only hopeful so far is actually lwvtb that we are viewing on Saturday but they live local & don't mind if it takes a while to pay if we decide to buy as they know we have to sell our pony too.

I had a lovely pony on full loan for a year, the owner was going to university and i just paid the livery fee every month. The pony was a dream for me, we built up such a bond (she neighed to me every day when i came up the yard and when she lay down in the stable id sit down talking to her) and it broke my heart letting her go.

I gave her up because the yard was too 'dressage' for me, i am a hacking/jumping person and hate riding in the school too often. The yard manager hated people who jumped and to be honest there wasn't anything to jump over (2 jump wings held together by bailer twine and poles that where trees) and i didnt have the nerve when it came to doing anything other than riding around the school as that was all anyone else ever did.

However the owner, the pony and the people where just fabulous, i cried and cried when it was my last day with her.

So yes people do want full loans, some nutters came to try out my old loan horse before i got her. Its just being patient and finding the right person

good luck :D

I'm having the opposite problem...I'm looking for a pony for my son to loan as he's lost confidence with his youngster whilst it's been turned away over the winter. I think my problem is we're looking for something for a short term loan and people worry about when they have to take them back. I have offered to keep it over winter though so people know we're not just looking for a summer loan. Still not had any luck though. :(

What are you looking for horsegal, I have a 15.1 unbroken 5 yr old Arab that I would loan view to buy but will be very fussy about the home ...

refuse to buy privately now, too many dishonest people out there, I'm always looking for full loans, i cant find any suitable ! Or if i do find one they want them to stay at same yard.

We are currently looking for a permentant loan home for our tb but have found it impossible to find anyone - we're happy for him to go up to several hours away and won't take him back in a few months time as the loan is due to my sister's poor health meaning she can't ride any more which won't change.
If anyone's interested in a green, honest tb north england way feel free to pm me :p

I was even looking into sending him to a local equine college for the students but they want the owners to pay to keep the horses there, erm no chance mate!

Ehmm....... dunno whereabouts you are - but when I sent mine to equine college I didn't pay for the "livery" as such.

Am wondering if this was for "working livery" i.e. where the horse is used by the college??? I'd be inclined to ask them to clarify.

I've sent mine on loan to a private person in the past but would never, ever do it again. Even with a watertight contract in place, abso no way.

However, I WOULD let him go to equine college again. He was well looked after there and schooled too.
