Why Does Your Horses Weight Matter ?

just got around to watching and very informative - especially the difference in the 28 stone overweight compared to the 28 stone underweight and the ongoing welfare due to these.

The shetland that was 64 kg overweight - OMG.

Have to admit, I've been lax about fat scoring my ponies and I like the way they do it with a Native rather than a TB type.

Thanks for putting them all together. I haven't seen the Roly Owners one before.
Some very important points made, thanks for putting them all together LittleWildOne.

have just sent them in a very polite way to a friend who i have talked to about the weight of her horse before who didnt no what to do about it. i was very careful to try not to offend but i do hope she watches them. thanks

Thanks for looking and I'm glad you found the clips informative. :)
It shows the opposite end of the "cruelty" spectrum. There is alot publicised about the starved and neglected horses, and quite rightly so, but it's rare to see anything about OBESITY unless you go looking for articles.
That poor Shetland, carrying just over the equivalent of 3 bags of pasture mix, IN FAT !!!!! :(, and people go nuts about the size of riders on ponies :(.
I knew a woman years ago, she had a TB x Clydesdale and stuffed him with conditioning cubes to the extent that he got laminitis. All in the name of making him look good . Poor horse to have to suffer to that extent, and he had to have surgical shoes on for the rest of his life :(.
I came across these clips when I was looking at a link regarding the neglect case in Aberdeen.

They were very useful, cus I keep being told that my horses are under weight when I just see them as not carrying access weight. But The women that keeps telling me has a horse that is built like a rhino. And I find it very interesting that there are no long term effects of ur horse being to skinny but them being to fat brings many problems such as laminitis, and there prone to that for life. I just think that is alot of horse owners problems they think it's fine for a horse to be obese when it's really not it's cruel!!!
