I'm having a slightly rough time ATM and am I bit stressed :-( The yard I keep my boy on is amazing and they are all in massive fields and are allowed to live as a herd. They are mainly rescue horses and ponies and some have had a very rough start in life.

This morning I went into the field next to mine to turn the hose on, within minutes I was had four of the rescues around me including J who is very troubled but with the peace and quiet of the yard and the kindness shown to him is gradually coming out of his shell and will know leg you stroke his nose. The other three all had hugs and kisses and I came away feeling so privileged to be around such beautiful animals :-)

Completely agree with this. I was poo picking the other day, minding my own business while my 2 ponies were grazing. Something spooked them and my Haflinger (who isnt a loving type) shot over to me, put his head on my shoulder and sighed. So beautiful and touching that this half a ton of grumpy beast chose to come to me for protection. You are correct, we are very lucky to have these amazing animals in our lives.

P.s. I hope you feel better soon x

Very true. I was talking about horse's ability to be so generous and trusting this morning. Some of the horses I've known that have been at deaths door from neglect and been nursed back to health, don't hold grudges and are such incredibly lovely characters.
They are a thousand times wiser than the stupid, rather sad people who abuse them.

((((hugs)))) to you.
Horses have litraly saved my life in the passed. If it wasn't for Lucy I wouldn't be here anymore.
I often find it's the ones who have had a tough past that have the most to give. Very sad but amazing at the same time.
I'm having a very tough stressful life to at the mo and the only thing keeping me going is knowing this is all so my ponies and I can have a better life.
I hope your life gets better soon. I've got just under two weeks till I start my new life

I felt a part of me was missing when I was away from horses for many years. Although life is umpteen times more hectic now I have them back in it,I wouldn't trade a moment of it,just for the sheer joy of being around them. When I'm down, they invariably manage to cheer me up & remind me that the world isn't such a bad place after all..
Hugs to Supertrooper & LauraWheeler-hope you both feel brighter soon (& good luck in the new life LW) x

Couldn't agree more......I've had a really rubbish year so far and been round horses has helped me feel like I can deal with it.

Hope you feel better soon x

Horses have always been my therapy.

As soon as I walk onto my yard, I feel calmer and more at peace. Having suffered from severe anxiety and illness in the past, horses have been my saviour. They just 'know', and they confirm it even more when you see how gentle they are with those who have injuries or disabilities (we have a lady with severe autism who rides weekly).

I really think they should precribe equine therapy to those with mental health issues or problems!

Has anyone seen the programme about horses being used as treatment for young people with issues, including behavioural? It was amazing to see them around these horses after a few weeks! No idea what channel it was, and it was a few years ago now. Plus there was a series which Martin Clunes did about horses. One episode was specifically about therapy etc. Worth a watch!

I took up riding 3 years ago .. Because it was something I'd always wanted to do but never got around to doing. Yes I've learned to ride reasonably well but the big bonus for me is the calmness I feel around them and how much they've taught me along the way. They are very special animals who give us so much and ask for little in return. Last year I did a Masterson course so I'm now privileged to be able to give something back in return.
