I enlisted the help of a couple of girls from the yard yesterday afternoon to hack out three of mine. Although they can jump at the odd pidgeon they are really good in traffic and well used to buses, lorries ect. So off we went. They behaved very well and were really relaxed and then we got to the bottom of the hill about 500 yards from being back at the yard.
A L motorbike drive came flying round the corner, doing about 50 in a 30 zone, behind us with an engine that sounded like a car back firing. The horses shot forwards and were scared. I asked him to stop and he still kept coming making an attempt to over take us, all the time the motorbike was making an awful noise. The horse shot forward and instead of backing off he put his foot down with a massive rev. This was the final straw, the horses bolted. And I mean BOLTED flat out . 2 of them galloped falt out on the wrong side of the road towards oncoming traffic, the sparks literally flying off their feet.
My horse didn't go straight away but realising he had been left behind just went, flat out on the path totally out of control. The kid on the bike still kept coming trying to find a way to get past us!
There was a lady with a dog shouting at him to stop but he was oblivious.
I managed to pull mine up and only when I did and turned to face him did he stop the bike.
UNBELIVEABLE!

The other two were still galloping up the road, in the end three cars pulled across the road and they came to a halt.
How no one was killed I will never know.

I got off my horse and gave him a mouthful ( I did not swear- just made it clear how he could have killed some one)

He response ' to be honest.. its not my problem'

GrRRRRRRRR!

I went back to the yard and asked a staff member to go and take his number plate as I was too angry to speak to him any more.

5 mins later, he turns up in the yard with his parents where they proceeded to shout at ME for upsetting the boy on the bike! They also called the police about me! ( who weren't intrested)

After 10 mins of being ranted out by his parents they left having told me I was out of order and he wasn't in the wrong and didn't do it on purpose. They then left

10 mins later a fellow rider came into the yard to say that a boy on a motorbike had scared their horse , it galloped up the path and the boy on the bike sped up on purpose... the same person... so not on purpose my arse!

I hope to god it hasn't scarred them for life about being ridden on the road.

Idiot him and idiot parents, obviously nothing is ever their fault is it? I hope you still got their details, I'd be reporting him if I were you, and get the other rider to report him too.

To be honest, it is his problem, if it came to to horse vs bike - the bike rider is not exactly going to get off scot free are they?

Plus, if he is reported to the police for recklessness, it becomes his problem then doesn't it the little prick

unbelievable! Shoulds like a bratty little mummy's boy!

Have you reported him to the police?? Doing it again on the same day sounds to me like he is going to go out of his way to cause an accident!

As above, please report him. What if you had been a hack with small children?! There are some real ar$eholes out there :( Glad you are all ok though.

when the police spoke to (IMO) the offending party, they said that we are always calling about drivers ( which is not true) and have prob got a bit of an issue and that the bike rider bore the brunt of our anger!!! Very proffesional policing!Maybe if one of us had actually been killed then they might have been a bit more understanding

Makes me so mad! am forever seeing signs saying " THINK BIKE " if they were riding their bike responcibly you wouldn't have to think this, their are the odd few who are very good, and once, twice a year we have the Harley Club decend on us, and they are absolutly brilliant! stop and turn off their bikes and I have great respect for them! they slow down & stop! but the rest of them are total feking idiots, and you just have to hope karma catches up with them and they end up kissing the tarmac! as for the POLICE! what happend to the " help, serve, protect" motto? grrrr!! guess unless they can chase them at high speed! its not exciting enough and too much paper work! but glad to here no serious damage was done to you or your horses..

I think I would be writing to Chief Superintendent, or whoever is in charge of your local force to complain about the unprofessional attitude. This boy needs a visit from the police and a lecture about due care and attention on the road.

You've only got their word for that! I'm not sure that I would believe them!! They were prob just trying to prove the police were on their side and you were in the wrong.

I'd still ring and report!! You have witnesses from the dog walker etc

Well I hope the next rider to see this idiot reported him to the police. I hope you did too.
The more people who report this kind of behaviour, the more the police will have to take notice. As for what the police allegedly said to the biker and his family, I'd ring and ask to speak to the duty inspector to ask for this to be investigated. It is the case sometimes that P.C.'s try to make their own busy lives a bit easier.

Sounds like a right little jumped up mommas boy!

"not my problem" Jeeez where do some people get this attitude from, how about some basic concern for fellow people. Idiots! Just glad you weren't hurt.

As suggested write formally to the police, they are so lazy you have to really make a point with them. I find most motor bikes brilliant, he would be a dangerous prat whatever he was driving. As for his so called parents, shouldn't have a dog let alone kids. I hope you feel better now, I know that feeling when you are soooo angry:mad:

In reply to majors post I don't think I am so lazy you really have to make a point with me. Call 101 ask to speak to the duty inspector to make a complaint of your not happy with how you were dealt with. The collar number of the officers who spoke with you will be logged in the incident the boy reported. Gather as many witnesses as you can and also the second person who had issues with this young motorist. Report it at your local police station.

OMG! That sounds like a dreadful ordeal for you. I am very glad to hear that thankfully you and the horses are unharmed. What was the lad thinking?
Did he think it amusing to potentially cause a serious accident?

Where I am, the motorbikers are usually the most courteous and thoughtful when we encounter them on the roads. This stupid little boy needs to grow up a bit.

Try and put your heart back into your chest now.;)

Contact the BHS or report it on the horse accidents website, I know no-one was hurt (thank god!) but its still worth reporting.

How crazy that the parents came and had a go out you, bloomin' heck I would have been livid.

They also called the police about me! ( who weren't intrested)

Good for them...

But I'd be following it up with a call and letter of my own... Preferably with witness comments and contact details and also include the boy's parents...

Coming onto the yard and being abusive towards you is no more acceptable than his lack of driving ability... The police also have a duty of care when they know laws are being broken - even if they might need a bit of persuasion to pay attention to it...

I think you need to make a complaint as well! My friend's horse was killed on the roads a few weeks ago (hit by a driver after he was blinded by the sun) so I'm more aware than ever of how important it is for drivers to be careful!

If it had been me I've no doubt there would have been some choice words said in the heat of the moment, I used some the other week when some idiot overtook me on a blind bend with a car coming the other way, ignoring my hand signal to stop  Luckily their window was open so I made dam sure they knew what I thought of them ;)

Wow thats seriously scary glad al are ok!

What a total idiot though i hope the police at least have a few choice words with him! Bikers of all people should realise how dangerous that was for both parties!

I came across a load those little screechy bikes at the end of the field on a hack yesterday, doing jumps on mounds of mud! I turned around sharpish to avoid any unplanned galloping!

The lady with the dog lives across the road from the yard. I will report it first thing tommorow.
Thank you.x

great! With a witness they can't ignore you.

Sure they won't do anything more than turn up on his doorstep and tell him off but maybe that will scare him enough to make him stop being such a prat!

Oh my god, thats terrible!
It's totally beyond my comprehension that some people can be so stupid and reckless!
Hope you're all ok, and that the horses weren't too badly scared...

Reminds me of a time I was hacking on country lanes, a chavvy car full of boy racers came round the corner, saw me, then actually sped up to pass me and went past going absolutely flat out, so close they almost brushed my stirrup. To top it off they were blaring their horn and hanging out the window laughing. Unbelievable. Glad you are all ok

Ugh at OP's post and one above, people like that really need to be shot.
Police useless as usual as well, there is no respect in this country anymore.
