Why I hate hacking on the roads..near miss yesterday.

By all means, take it further with the police, their attitude is almost as bad as the biker's. See if you can get his insurance co's details from them as you may need to make a claim ;) and email/call them to tell them you are informing that you may be claiming if for instance once of the horses need vet treatment for stiffness/tendon pulls. TBH it's very unlikely you would be able to but it would affect his renewal premium in a negative fashion.

But as a consolation, you can pretty sure that he won't be on the road for long with his attitude - he only needs 6 points to lose his licence (even a provisional) and if that happens, even if he manages to get it back after 6 months his already extortionate insurance cost will rise above to a level that even the most doting parents can pay.Alternatively he will kill himself - there is a good reason that young men on bikes are known as Donor cycles - and I say this as somebody who's 20 yo brother was a whisker from being one of these statistics!

Still can't believe his parents <where's a shaky head smilie when you need one?> this lad must be at least 16 and I wonder are they still changing his nappy for him - scary thing is that if he carries on like he is they could easily have their "baby" back, nappies, wheelchair and all.

Glad that you all survived but do follow it up - he can't allowed to get away with this behaviour.

when the police spoke to (IMO) the offending party, they said that we are always calling about drivers ( which is not true) and have prob got a bit of an issue and that the bike rider bore the brunt of our anger!!! Very proffesional policing!Maybe if one of us had actually been killed then they might have been a bit more understanding

Did the police really say this...or was it what THEY told you they said!!!! Probably another load of croc!!!! Glad you got away with any serious incidents >:(

I would not take the word of his parents. Please call the police and report the incident.

I agree with everyone else, you and your fellow riders must report it, get the dog walker to make a statement and the other person from the yard who experienced the same thing from the little snot bag. With that many persons reporting the same thing they have to at least give hime a talking too.

Its such a shame as bikers tend to be amongst the most considerate to horses of all road users, probaly because they are aware of how vunerable they are.

Hope your nerves recover soon, must have been terrible

In view of the attitude of the police officers who attended please contact the chief constable for the area and ask him to investigate this matter further as his officers clearly have not dealt with the matter correctly.
You have got sufficient witnesses so the police should have no problems in prosecuting the motorcycle driver for dangerous driving.
Please also report this incident on the www.horseaccidents.org.uk web site.

Ugh at OP's post and one above, people like that really need to be shot.
Police useless as usual as well, there is no respect in this country anymore.[/QUOT

Why are the Police useless? There has been no incident reported and the scroat's parents 'said' the police said the op always reported people!! Not sure what it is they have or haven't done!!!

Glad you're OK, I also hate riding on the roads now. My nineteen year old, traffic proof, trusted completely, driving pony had an accident and a fractured splint bone a couple of years ago because an overloaded open back truck came tearing down a narrow lane towards us making a total clattering racket unlike any sort of normal traffic. If you aren't safe with a horse like that how the hell are you ever supposed to get young horses trained to be confident on the roads? I love hacking but I wish I never had to do it on the roads.

I hope all the horses aren't injured or too upset.

Reminds me of a time I was hacking on country lanes, a chavvy car full of boy racers came round the corner, saw me, then actually sped up to pass me and went past going absolutely flat out, so close they almost brushed my stirrup. To top it off they were blaring their horn and hanging out the window laughing. Unbelievable. Glad you are all ok
A similar thing happened to me a few years ago, except then they turned the car around and crawled back past me so they could all make lewd suggestions and jeer out of the window. They must have done this 5 or 6 times before I finally told them to feck off and turned pony off down a footpath so they couldn't follow.

Firstly, help serve protect, is the american motto, never the brits, the police in this country don't give a monkey's about horses I've found. You only need to realise that the man who killed 2 horses and a rider and got a susended sentence versus the kid who killed a passenger when doing the spped limit (friend of a friend) who got 3 years to realise that. The child in question is clearly a brat. He won't live long given his attitude, but will probably take/ ruin someone elses life on the way out. Make sure it is reported with witness statments to cover whichever poor **** ends up killing him when he runs into them. If his parents came into the yard, then later he frightened another horse on the same road, it may be worth putting up some form of CCTV to try and catch him the next time. Hope the horses and riders are ok.

Sounds extremely scary for you!

From what I understand OP hasn't been to the police herself, this is all rubbish the driver's parents said! I would totally ignore the parents and go straight to the police with the name/address of your neighbour witness and take the other rider who was affected later on with you to make a separate complaint. I would be really surprised if the police ignore you, but if they do you should complain further. Ditto the BHS accident reporting site - very important to have a record of the number of accidents/near accidents suffered by riders on the roads!

Do I really need to say it, hopefully when he kills himself he will not hurt anyone else in the process, this attitude won't just be with his driving, nobhead parents breeding nobhead children, this country is full of them.
