Why I hate Livery

I feel really hurt and betrayed. Since I moved to our current yard in October there have been a few vacancies and so we have had large fields for each horse. We have been gradually filling up and there are now only 3 horses on their own of whom D is one and my friend's is another. Farmer asked would I share with my friend's horse and I said happily, fully accepting that I was never going to have my own field for ever and that these two horses get on well so I know it would work.

Tonight while I was doing my stable she rang her sharer who is a really good friend of mine and told her to tell me that she wasn't happy to share fields. She had made up all these lies and half truths but then hadn't got the nerve to say it to my face. Only a week ago she was asking to ride her and only yesterday she was asking me to move yards with her so that her horse would have a companion at some land she wants to rent. Needless to say neither will now be happening.

Why does livery have to be so unpleasant?
 
It isn't always unpleasant! but I can see where your coming from I hate people that can't tell you things to your face.
 
that's really awful, i'm lucky to be on a small yard where everyone gets on, ( i think ) unless they talk about me behind my back, who knows, i'd rather be told to my face if anyone as anything to say. they are spineless
 
Oh that is why my mum stopped livery, everyone bickering and falling out. That is the main thing I find with most horsey people, they are either extremely forwards or talk behind peoples backs. Hope you feel better soon

Unfortunately one bad apple can make the livery experience miserable.

I was totally sent to Coventry by one man at our yard. He, his family and their friend have left our yard and the difference is immeasurable. It is just such a nice chilled place to be now. Everyone else feels the same as me because he was putting them in an awkward position with his constant bitching. Let's hope your ex friend goes and gets the land on her own.

I just like to think that one door closes and another opens. Not everyone is like her and the next person who comes to your yard might be a better friend and fundamentally nicer person.

I can never understand why people can't just talk things through in a rational way. I don't always agree with my friends on the yard but I would never fall out about it and if I was upset about something, I would talk it through with them not let them hear it 3rd hand.

Why not talk to your friend and ask her what her concerns are. If she really isn't happy could they go in same field with electric fence seperating them? Hope you can sort it out

oh god i know how you feel, I'm on a big competition livery yard (30 odd horses) and it is SO SO bitchy. For some reason there are certain people on the yard that find it impossible to be pleased for people when they go out and do well.
Sorry for the rant by the way!
 
Thats why we have just bought our own yard for our horses!

Its ment to be a pleasure having horses and these livery yards make it a nightmare,bitchy girls,YO's who couldn't run a p**s up never mind a yard makes me smile,

other liverys thinking their horses are better than yours who cares we all love our horses whatever they are.

Our yard will not be run like this

We are running a livery and competition yard in beautiful, sunny Portugal! We have just completed the stables to a really high standard, we have a 50 x 70 metre sand school, large fields and WONDERFUL hacking.
Before I get bounced for advertising.......lol........I would make the comment that sometimes it is the yard that's bad but most times it's the people who work or have their horses there.
Genuinely I would welcome any suggestions to avoid issues with clients, suggestions on a sealed envelope or alternatively email to julian.mead@sapo.pt
