Following on from my previous post regarding getting hoof boots for my now barefoot horse i have added a xray from before he had his wedge shoes on please feel free to have a look as its in my profile pics of "my horses"The vet said that the angle of coffin bone was laying flat to the floor which was why they put a wedge on him,he had this for approx 7 months and then returned for xrays,i have not seen the next set of xrays but was told it had returned to normal, the horse was going great and in full work but has started to shorten stride again,i have now taken shoes off(previous post)and he is defo got a longer stride but now im worried the bone is moving again is this possible????please help im a worrying wreck!!!also insurance will not cover anything to do with foot as claim has ended.if i stay barefoot is there a chance the foot will sort itself out???

Isn't that something only your vet/farrier can tell you?

We had our boy barefoot for over 4 years and he now has severe joint problems (he's only 12/13) [not caused by barefoot] and we have now had to have shoes on to stop him wearing his feet unevenly. Your farrier/vet should be able to say yes it will or no it won't. Good luck with it :)

I think it depends on the exact problem. Im sorry i havent seen your previous posts. However, a friend of mine had a horse with navicular that was a fe days off being pts. As a last didtch attempt, he went to rockley farm for hoof rehabilitation.

Its taken 2 years but hes now sound :)

He was tried in aluminium shoes, wedges, etc etc

I would email the people at rockely farm (just google it) and ask their advice as theyre experts in the area and would defo be able to help you!!!

i think each horse is individual .... but.. i believe with horses going barefoot, the foot does what it needs to for the horse to be comfortable. My tb is barefoot due to navicular and i wasnt convinced he would come sound with it and he was given the all clear by the vet a couple of weeks ago who said "thats the best iv ever seen him move infront!" and even admitted he was anti barefoot but that i should stick at it with him!
