Why is everything on a Sunday?

For religious reasons, we don't do Sundays. If that isn't your bag of chips, try to imagine instead that I have to work on a Sunday.
When I was a child, everything was on Saturday, and I can remember the first 'Sunday Jumping' which made my mother sniff in disapproval!
I don't mind there being shows on Sundays, I understand that lots of people have to work on Saturdays, but surely, SURELY, lots of people have to work on Sundays, too?!
Why is absolutely everything on a Sunday?!
 
Most things are on a sunday arent they! I have loads of hassle trying to get a sunday off work

Everything always was on a sunday when I was younger and it is only now I have noticed more events on a saturday. Worked well for me as i used to go out friday nights so wouldn't have been in a fit state on saturday anyway!

I think it was probably because in days gone by most folk would be hunting on Saturdays and Sundays were the only day to do things. I prefer to go to shows etc on Saturday, and spend time with my hubby on Sundays, it also means I can have a bit (hopefully) of relaxtion time before work starts again on Monday. If you try hard enough you will find something on for you to do on Saturdays.
 
I don't compete on a Sunday for religious reason too! You're not alone!

It is really annoying. Luckily in my area there are Friday evening dressage and occasionally stuff on a bank holiday, but hardly anything on a Saturday. It really frustrates me. I totally understand!

Lots of midweek daytime and evening events and Saturdays at equestrian centres near us. And some riding club evening jumpng and dressage

For clubs and local shows though, it means people have Saturday to get set up and get ready, and Sunday for the event. More people being available Sat and Sunday to do it.


We used to have Saturday and midweek school hols shows when I was Pony Club age, but then the majority of Mothers arranged them as they did not go out to work.
 
I too rarely compete on a Sunday, as church comes first, but occasionally I go to an ''important'' show, but always feel slightly guilty, and usually miss something good!!!.
 
I have my lesson on a Sunday which my dad, although accepting of, would rather I was doing other things.

I try to go to church on a Sunday evening, but feel very abd about as I realise it really doesnt make up for what I have missed.

I understand where you are coming from totally.

Gosh it's nice to know I'm not alone!
The nearest 'big' place to us, for example, has all its unaffiliated dressage on Sats. and all its unafill SJ on Sundays - so my children who would like to do the jumping, can't.
I would have thought, that, given some people work on each day, and some people don't compete for religious or just family reasons on each day, it would be nicer for everyone if there was a mix - say reversing them every other month, iyswim. Maybe I will email them and suggest it? Do you think that would be seen as out of order?
We have found a little show or two to take the children to on Saturdays, but there's not a lot of choice.
 
Not wanting to be confrontational, but as a non church goer, I imagined that you should only not 'work' on a sunday???

Is it that church coincides with the time it would take for the shows, or is it that you feel unable to do the shows full stop as it is disrespectful.

Sorry if this seems nosey...... well I suppose it is, but its nice to understand the reasons too

It's a case of keeping the Lord's Day to His purposes, really, MQ.
I actually wouldn't mind doing little tiddly shows in the afternoon (though we are usually at chapel until 1, and back again by 6, so it could be tricky!) but of course the little classes are always first thing.
It's important (for us, anyway) to walk our talk, and not to teach the children that if it's inconvenient, it can be sidelined.
Not nosey at all. I chose to discuss it!
 
its so annoying isn't it! i work every sunday and competitions and riding club activities around me are always on sundays and i always end up missing out. i am beginning to hate working sundays....
 
I dont know. I remember there used to be a lot of Sat events too. There's still the odd one nown and again in my area, but like you say most are Suns. But TBH Sunday is better for me as I work Mon-Fri so means I have Sat to get the horse ready (bath etc.), very hard to do all that in a couple of hours when I get home at 6.30 on a Friday night.

Im not religious so its not really an issue for me but I sold one of my ponies to someone who was and refused to do anything fun on a Sunday. I believe she had to do like housework etc. and just couldnt do anything which was enjoyed or something. But that was a slightly different religion.
