Hi everyone, I'm looking for a groom position and have been searching through websites for hours as Im not particularly interested in riding!

I turn out to a very high standard, Im very time efficient, I work very hard, willing to do all yard chores and work alone or as part of a team.

I don't mind riding but it seems to be a massive part of the jobs I've seen and riding isn't my main interest just the general care and going to competitions ect.

Don't people want to ride there own horses and let other people do all the boring things like mucking out ??

Most often I've found that job searching online is the least likely way of actually getting a horsey job, because many people don't advertise there.

Ways I have found work in the past is:
Look up all the yards in your area where you might be interested in working (perhaps breeding places if you are not that interested in riding) and send out a mass email to all of them explaining that you are looking for work and why you would like to work for them. (I'm sure you will be able to find someone to help you with the wording if you are unsure). Lots of yards will approve of the initiative you have shown and you are more likely to reach places with vacancies than just looking online for adverts. This is if you want to work at a commercial yard. (I have actually found two jobs this way!).

For smaller family places where they might be looking for someone to groom but not ride much, I would put adverts in all the local tack shops/feed shops/livery yards/community notice boards etc, even on people gates if you're feeling brave, outlining what services you can offer and put your contact details at the bottom.

Good luck! :)

My problem is I live on the isle of Wight! I don't mind moving for the right job and will travel anywhere. But I will start looking on websites and sending CVs.

Thank you!

Find out about the yards you would like to work at and send an individualised CV with a covering letter explaining why you are the right person to work there. Its really worth getting someone who knows about these things to look over your CV/letter and give you some advice. The local job centre/connextions may be able to help.
