My cob he is young aged 6 have only been able to exercise him once a week due to weather and family commitments, my daughter rode him out tonight and he bucked just walking down the road, which is just not like him, he likes to buck in canter but we are trying to sort this. He is fed just chaff and pony nuts and has as much hay as he wants could it be too much hard food and not enough exercise? Like I said he is usually so safe in walk and trot so need to find the trigger? Hoping go send him away for schooling in the next week or so just hoping this is a one off?
 
Is his turnout being restricted in this gross weather we;ve been having?

No exercise, colder weather, changing coat, reduced turnout are probably all combining - unlikely to be one simple trigger.
No harm in cutting out the hard feed and trying to up exercise (paying someone to exercise him or lunge/ ride and lead etc.) but you may just need to ride it out.
Also at 6 his is a teenager so could easily be starting a 'Kevin' phase of his life

PS assume saddle fits and he hasn't chaged weight recently that might make it not fit anymore
 
How long ago into last year was your saddle fit checked?
Personally I expect it's a teenage phase too, I was lucky and mine is too lazy a character to really make a fuss so fingers crossed your boy is like that too and he is just testing the water :)
I would cut the hard feed too (unless he is underweight?) and see if he chills out a bit, it could be that he is just getting too much for what he's doing at the moment :)
 
Mine does the same if he isn't ridden as often as he would like....he can be turned out 24/7 and will still buck in walk if I don't ride several times a week, yet at the moment he is in 24/7 while the fields are so bad, and because he is being ridden every day he isn't bucking at all :-/
