I have read lots of posts regarding people trying to find genuine horses with great difficulty, so i am currently trying to sell a 9yo 16.2hh pre novice eventer, who was well placed this year, very genuine allrounder, hunter/dressage etc bombproof ride, forward going but not sharp very safe etc and am asking 7k, do you think this is to much, for the average person looking for a quality horse, have had loads of calls but no real interest, or just the time of year, the right home is the most important thing

this sounds just like a horse I've been looking for and the price is spot on in my opinion. I can give you a test phone call if you like and see if you are saying anything to put people off !!!!
 
I would have been very interested as he is just what I am looking for. Unfortunately, broke my leg at the beginning of november whilst trying one out.

Let me know if you still have him in a couple of months, when hopefully I will be up on my feet again...would love to come and try him out.
 
Oh poor you. I've been bucked off one in mid air over a jump but thankfully didn't hurt myself other than pride, bruises and a chipped tooth!
 
The market is very quiet! I've had a few advertised for over a month now and not one call...... and mine have been advertised a lot cheaper than yours! Good luck!

Interest rates have gone up, and will go up again, so anyone with a mortgage or loans of any kind is going to be short of cash.

If you think of how much it will cost you to over winter the horse, you might concider dropping the price to get a sale. 5 months livery and running costs, plus your time... all adds up.
 
Like others have said, the market is very quiet and has been for some time. It doesn't seem to matter whether you are asking a small price or a large one, there is just no interest at all. I advertised my mare for a couple of months with zero calls and ditto her foal . . . very depressing. Mine have simply got to go before next winter as I'm losing my winter grazing and cannot afford to put into two into livery, even if I wanted to. I lost the last one I had in livery after only a month in the yard - which is why I'd rather give them away than go down that route again.
 
I totally agree..mortgage costs are high, so most peoples money go bills, cost of living ect. I am paying £45.00 per week DIY for one horse then i have to add the costs of shoes, feed, straw, petrol..and keep my fingers crossed i dont get a vets bill. Plus the weather is just awfull.

Can you believe that it only costs E350 per month all in. I am paying more than this now in the UK.

I put my horse up for sale in October and iv still got him, i had lots of people asking questions, riding him, and offering silly money., and to be honest iv got more respect for my horse than to let him be sold to somebody who is after a bargain as i worry they will not look after him.

I am sure that he will be sold as people start to get ready for the 2008 season especially as he has done pre novice already. Where have you advertised him ?
 
That's a bit depressing as I've just advertised one for sale in H&H. He's already on eventingworldwide.com, but I don't know which other websites are any good. I was hoping as he hunts (but is smart enough to event as well) that he might sell, but now I'm not so sure.

Don't know if it's easier down south (people with more money than they know what to do with! - but not me sadly).

i thought i same i pay £15 a week if i have 2 horses where i am and £12 with just the one atm
 
If I am anything to go by, it is the time of year that's to blame as well as the threat of recession. My daughter is moving onto horses (wants to do intermediate tetrathlon which is 3'3) so I will be looking for a 16 - 16.1hh schoolmaster type to do xc and also pure showjumping. But as I still have all her outgrown ponies I can't face getting another horse at this time of year. I intend to start looking about Feb half term when the nights are getting lighter.

That's another problem - trying to get to see a horse with a teenager who is in school. By the time you have phoned up the paragon of virtue advertised in H&H, 6 other people are already queued up to see it and I can't get there until Saturday at the earliest by which time if it's any good it's gone! My friend was in the same situation looking for a first horse for a teenager - she ended up dragging the other child out of her sick bed to try something she had spotted in HH one Thursday morning. She got there first and bought it and luckily the sick child didn't fall off or anything awful.
 
Thanks everyone, he is advertised on horsequest as ultimate safe allrounder, would be near the end now as has been on there for a few weeks, and horse deals on line, have had lots of calls and am always very honest with people, as he is very safe, but not a plod! but easy to ride for any riding type club person etc. Its funny really, because of all the horses i have ridden over my life time, he is so trustworthy i would simply do anything with him, if you know what i mean!! perhaps he may sell after xmas, maybe i should stick him in h and hound.
 
There's a good deal of luck in this. I advertised our 14.2hh event pony at a realistic price on horsequest a month or so ago and he was sold over the phone in 24 hours and was away within days, but any other I was interested in and called about were still for sale.

As someone said higher up, it all depends whether you want to keep him over the winter with the associated costs, or drop your price and let someone else spend the money until the spring. Hope it all works out.
 
luckily i dont have to many livery costs as i rent my land for the whole lot, wether i have 1 or 10 on there! its just finding the time to ride really which is difficult, i also have an old horse out on loan which unfortunately (in the nicest way) is coming back in march, so it just adds to the pressure! and a young 4yo, i could really do with just one horse!
 
The disposable income has been reduced with the hike in interest rates, (the cut has not been enough), fuel costs etc. I think until people feel more confident with the market in general, there will be few people spending, whether this is for a car, house or a horse.
