just been looking at horses for sale and wonder why people put POA? and then at the end put no timewasters please,

Surely people wouldnt waste the owners time ringing if they just put a price on,

Also im quite shy and dont really want to ring people and say how much?

Then be totally embarresed that it is a sum I could never afford, wouldnt want to offend the owner either by saying sorry thats more than I expected.

I see your point! I'm no expert, but i remeber being told that people put POA if the sellers are trying to sell a horse for more than it's worth, so they still get interest and don't immeadiately put people off with the price! If that makes sense? I could be completely wrong...

Horse people should join together and start randomly ringing up POA ads and going "How much is your horse"..... "Cheers. Bye." Then people might stop doing it. It is annoying.

TBH, I think if you have to ask how much then you can't afford it! POA is aimed imho, at people who think if they spend a lot on a horse, it must be good. I think POA is generally horses over 10k ish?

Just ring up the normal people who dare to put a price on.

poa to me always suggests a silly price, like when they dont put the price on stuff in tack shops you know its going to be expensive!

to me it mean, "it's over priced and I know it is, or too embrassed to publish price!"

As sorry you do see advert for very expensive horse with their price tags. IMO these POA are asking to be bugged by timewasters asking for price! D'oH

If I was horse shopping I would ignor ads with POA as I would assume that they were way out of my price range. I think its annoying, and not exactly the best way to discourage time-wasters.

Also, ads that say 'no time-wasters' put me off. It makes me feel like I'd better not go and look, because if I didn't buy it for whatever reason, I would be branded a time-waster!

I agree POA would put me off ringing. I also think its bloomin silly to put that on the ad and then say no time wasters - of COURSE you are laying yourself open to people wasting yours and their time doing it that way.

Don't often see POA on the type of horse I look for though - generally under £3k.

The last horse I bought was POA, I didn't dare ring the people as I thought he would be too much money. Eventually I kept going back to the same advert - after about 6-8 weeks and thought what the heck I will call them!

Anyway shaking away on the phone I called them and they said he was sold but they had another one and to look on their website. Again no prices. I called to arrange a viewing and asked how much the horse was, he was very reasonably priced so I went to see. When I was there I didn't get on with this horse and ended up purchasing the one that I wanted originally - the sale had fallen through. He was more money but they knocked that off for me as we got on so well. I did ask why they did the POA as I thought I would never be able to afford their horse and they said that a lot of the time it is because people are just being nosey and if they are serious about the horse they will ring and ask.

So I think it works both ways. Give them a call xx

Not quite the same but my old horse was advertised by a competition yard as "bargain". Now I had no idea of whether their idea of a bargain meant it fell into my very limited price range. Anyway cut long story short, it did, I bought him and had him for 17 years. You can but ask.

Hate it when they do that. I almost never call POA adverts. About the only time I did the seller wanted £18,000 (I had £6,000 to spend, which I thought was a lot ha ha). It wasnt a long conversation!

I dont feel embarrassed about calling them - if they dont put the price its not my fault if it doesnt meet my budget, but it annoys me that they are wasting my time having to call before I decide if its a pipe dream or a possible reality.

Just as annoying is when they dont put down an area and just have a mobile phone number so you cant even look up the code. Thats another one I wouldnt usually bother calling about.

I always thought POA generally meant the price was negotiable to a degree (pricey but negotiable!). I've never phoned up when its said POA though I have to say - they'd likely be out of my price range.

I agree, that annoys me too!

I think sometimes when people put that, they don't want freinds and neighbours knowing how much they are asking for their horse!!! i don't ring up about them i must say because i always think they are out of my price range. we recently sold a horse for a lot of money and put the price on because we only wanted the people who could afford it ringing up, and not have that silence at the end of the phone when you say the price!!! If you have to answer the phone for an advertised horse it helps i think if the buyer knows already how much the horse is so they must be partially interested!!!

POA can sometimes not be expensive...sometimes it's just that when an ad is placed the price may change as the horse is worked...particularly with a horse being started and an ad with a bit of lead time...
if I submit the ad now to appear next month....the $3000 youngster with potential might be a $6000 future champ with a month under saddle and already kicking ass...or it might be a $300 nutter who has shown major issues under saddle....

Most times they ARE pricey... but sometimes they are not. ....and some folks think the price is between them and their client without the general public needing to know...

Most ads over here are POA and it doesn't worry me to ring up and ask - I'm usually ringing on behalf of someone else anyway, so I can always say it's out of THEIR price range

Worse though is the POI ones which we also get a lot of - price on inspection

there is a lovely grey mare for sale on here, that has POA.
would realyy love to know how much she is going for, but its a bit too far away from me,

It would be just nice to know how much in comparisson to something else that is closer but done same stuff if you know what I mean,
