Why is it so difficult to find a IW 505 trailer at a sensible price?

Hi, I'm new here so please bear with me as I am not very familiar with the workings of the forum. We have been looking for a trailer for ages now with no luck. Does anyone know of an Ifor Williams 505, with aluminium floor and swinging partition for sale? We have a reasonable budget but have been surprised at the prices these are fetching - particularly on ebay. All ideas gratefully received. Thanks.

They fetch high prices as the resale value has always been very good on them.

You may find a bargain if you spend hours searching and happen across someone desperate to get rid quickly but on the whole they sell very well, for good prices and quite quickly too!

A few years ago I sold an 18 month 505 on eBay for £2700 and I had paid £3000 for it new! It had been used at least once a week and I was moving abroad so it had to go. The guy who bought it wanted it ASAP and he couldn't wait for the delivery time on a new one!
I then bought another new one three years ago when we got back to the UK! I didn't see the point of buying second hand as they hold their value so well!

They tend to e at a high price because they are fautless! I got mine in march for a couple thousand which i wasnt too pleased to pay at first but even though its almost ten year old someone asked me if i bought it new. They last forever and as the floor is aluminium it doesn't rot so lasts a very long time.

As others have said they keep their value really well. Hence I decided to pay a few hundred more and get a brand new one when I bought mine.

The lowest I have seen them is about 2k

I have been trying to sell mine and i have no takers whatsoever. It's a 2003 505. aluminium floor etc. First on at 2600, then 2400 now 2200. got to go it's too small for my horses. Dealership offered 2800 against a new 511 but i'm tryinb to avoid new for the VAT

If you phone your local IW dealer and give them the serial number and an idea of the condition, they'll probably give you an idea of what your trailer is worth.

Having said that, there is one dealer I will never buy from and another who is extremely helpful, so they do vary! You can also ask IW head office, again I've found them to be really helpful.

(I am not connected to IW in anyway way, except for being a very satisfied customer).

The older IW's seem to be holding very good prices, the word on the street seems to be the new ones aren't all they are cracked up to be, hence pushing the old faithfuls up in price.

I paid £2750 for an 07 classic 505, we had a steal as it is immaculate.

In answer to your question, I know someone in SWales who might be selling a refurbed 505, if I can get his number, would you like it?

My friend is trying to sell her old IW505 but it needed a new floor first so she took it to her local dealer for a metal floor to be fitted. (It has a swing partition).

The dealer noted the serial number, looked it up and informed her it was stolen! She'd bought it in good faith from a woman many years ago who'd bought it in good faith from someone else who'd also bought it in good faith and before all of those, was an owner who'd had it stolen.

But now, many years later, nobody knows who that person was. She's had conversations with the police, the trailer insurers, etc.

So although it's registered as stolen, nobody is looking for it now. She's been told she's free to sell it, but of course if anyone comes to view it and looks up the serial number, it comes up as stolen.

thanks for the offer! Don't really need a 510 although your's is definitely a bargain. At the risk of shooting myself in the foot - I think nicnag is right - get it on ebay, you will easily get considerably more than £2k. However, if you decide that it's too much hassle, then let me know.

Dubsie - So reasonable in fact that when I called about the trailer I was told that it sold within 2 hours of being put on the website! Thanks anyway - back to the drawing board.

Same thing happened to mine, I put my 505 on ebay and 2 hours later I had cash in my hand and waved my trailer off to its new home. I got £2.3k for it and it had some minor cosmetic faults and with the amount of interest I got in a short space of time I could of got more.

As other have said they are well made and really last so they dont depreciate much in value.

DreamTeam, a friend of mine was advertising her 505 very recently. Not sure if she still has it though - I will find out if you are interested. It has a new floor and is in Essex.

Just to let you know that thanks to this forum, and one member in particular, we have a trailer! I am going to have one very happy daughter this evening:) Thanks to all that took the trouble to reply, send photos etc.

You think trying to find a 505 is difficult?! Try finding an HB506 no older than 3 years for a decent price. I've been looking for months!!

However glad you found something. I've found something too, finally! Takes a while but definately worth the wait :)

Now I can't wait to have my shiny new black HB506 sitting next to my yard :D
