I have a 2yr old PBA and have just moved her to a new yard, she is used to being stabled at night with her haynet, ball and two small feeds a day. She was turned out all day.

When we got her to the new yard i put her out with another mare who is has settled in with great and me a new YO are trying to keep them out 24/7 together for as long as we can. But why is it so hard for me to back off and just treat her like a normal horse instead of wrapping her in cotton wool? Because she is out now all the time i have cut down her feed as i dont think she needs it yet and i really dont want her to grow to quickly and damage her bones. She lived out last winter fine but i must admit i spoil her and worry constantly about her getting cold etc. I had a horrible dream last night i lost her and woke up panicking. She loves her new place and her new friends and its lovely but i am constantly worrying about her and i dont know why. Has anyone else had this issue?

You moved! Fantastic! pm me and let me know how it went please! :)

You love your horse so of course you will worry. We all stress over nothing, your not alone :D

Just keep a close but loving eye on her. I'm sure she is very happy as they soon know when they aren't ;)

I am so glad you have finally managed to move her! :D PM me details too on how you managed that.

Really pleased shes settling in well at new yard. Your bound to worry especially after all you have been through these past few weeks. I am sure she will be fine and you will stop worrying as you get into a routine with her.

Your new YO sounds great! :D

I was wondering about what happened to you!

As for your filly, well as long as you are happy with fences, companion, etc. just let her be a horse. The YO sounds very sensible. It is not cold at the moment, so long as there is some shelter, a good hedge, tree, or field shelter should should be fine living out all winter with sufficient food. You will find that horses living out 24/7 use a field shelter in the summer to keep out of the flies, but mostly don't bother otherwise.

She may want to come in when the grass stops growing and has all been eaten off. So long as she is looking OK let her stay out.

V pleased to hear you got out of your old yard in one piece :)

You're allowed to worry for your girl, entirely normal. My cob x has been out of work for a few months now due to injury and has a nice big fluffy coat. I still feel bad about not putting a rug on and giving him a feed that consists of more than a handful of chaff and a half a dozen pony nuts! So far he has survived though.

Best of luck with new yard. If you've not nothing better to do PM me with how you got out of old yard-'cause im nosey 'n' all!!!

thank you all so much, reassuring to know it isnt just me lol now im worrying about firework night lol so might end up there with her til about midnight then unless she is ok lol!

Charen i hope he gets better soon x

haha pixie i did jus that last year!
Id had my horse only a couple of months and was constantly worried - bonfire night was ruined - we went to a big display but all i could think of was my poor horse -
i pictured him stood shivering with nerves in the middle of his field - so i left my husband and daughter at the firework party and drove to the yard (they had to get a taxi home!)

Blooming horse was fine - stood munching away without a care in the world -

I think its loveley you care so much - it does get easier lol, i promise! xxx

You have what I call the 1st time Mum Syndrome and most posters on here have gone through the same thing. Pony fine, owner stressed out, with the what if's or that could happen, what shall I do, if this or that happens:):):):) and sorry but most of us don't actually grow out of it, just get a little more laid back:D:D:D:D

My first horse is now nearly 25. We've been together for 20 years.

If you work out how to back off - let me know.
