I've had a few people come and share my boy now and they lie about their abilities and knowledge of horses.
Why do people do this!??

I've just found out that My poor pony hasnt been ridden now for 8weeks or more now because the sharer wasn't confident enough for ride him!

It sooooooo frustrating.....he is such an amazing pony but because he is only 12.2 and only 6 years old, I'm finding it so hard to find someone that is small enough and competent enough. ?

People do lie more than ever now.Its up to you to check them out better and see evidence to back up their lies.
You should have put the sharer through their paces and you decide if they are confident or not - never trust what anybody tells you.

I have a chunky 12.2hh New Forest who is not a child’s ride despite being perfect for me! Is yours like that perhaps? Or are you getting teens from the local riding school? I found with riding school kids, it’s best to put time in and be there yourself at the beginning of the share, as they are usually far less capable than they think they are!

Did your share contract stipulate that the pony had to be ridden?
6 years old is possibly young for a child learner to manage and it is a blurred line between having a parent pay to use your horse and employing a light weight teen or adult rider to school him while he is so young.
Edited to mention that I am a long term sharer and think sharing is great when it goes well.

Do they actually lie or are they just inexperienced and deluded about their capabilities? The best way to get your pony exercised by someone competent is to pay a professional. Expecting someone to do it for you free, or even to pay you for the privilege, invites those who are looking for cheaper alternatives to a riding school. I'm sure you pony doesn't care he hasn't been ridden for 8 weeks but were you supervising what was going on at all?

I would jump at that opportunity! (Though I’m not under 9 stone or in your area) might take a while and a bit of sieving through the nutjobs but I’d have thought you’d find someone as it’s not often really quality horses (or in this case, pony) come up for share

you'd be surprised (or maybe not!) at the rubbish i sieved through to find a hacking sharer for the other pony we had (since sold)....very easy gig as that pony was a SAINT, i didnt want any money, poo picking on days they rode only, no mucking out just turn up get them in and groomed and lets go, lifts to farm rides etc........found a lovely one in the end but christ the maniacs that messaged me!

i am hoping for a petite college student who perhaps did some showing so probably come across hot little stallions and wants a a very easy come easy go low maintenance share, just hacking with no chores or pressure.

It can be done. I used to share a pony nicknamed 'Naughty Nicki'. I fell off almost every day but took it as, 'I need to be better' and he improved my riding no end.

The point is the right people are out there, just a case of getting a feel for them and possibly more regular check-ins to nip any problems in the bud.

I laughed at this. There is a horse on our yard I privately call "Naughty horsey". I am elderly and sometimes ride out with the YM, but preferably not when she is riding Naughty horsey. I am told he has been there for years but it seems to me that he doesnt like her and I feel apprehensive following him.

I regret to say that you come across as an unpleasant little know all.
If you can't say something helpful/supportive, it's better to say nothing.
I suggest that you may be a dull troll. If not, you are certainly acting like one. Be gone. You are neither use nor ornament.

I asked on here when I was looking for one.

Had some great suggestions for where to look.

Wrote a carefully worded advert, and set out my stall very clearly. Had a lot of unsuitable people get in touch, some were quite stroppy. Some were young children. Some wanted more than I wanted to offer. I asked lots of questions and ruled a lot out at this point.

But I had three people come and ride him. I offered two of those a few days each. One fizzled out as she wanted more assistance from me than I had time to offer. But the remaining sharer is super. She communicates well, looks after him really well and is happy with as much or as little help as I can offer.

Good sharers are out there, but they can take some finding.
