Am a 21 yr old female. been riding on and off since the age of 11, grew up on a farm, worked 2yrs at a small animal veterianry referral centre. Spent 2008 working a stud season and some sales work with the tbs, am good friends with the 1st stud and regularly visit at the sales and help out. done some horse sitting. BRS racing secretary course in Dec 2010.

Why am i struggling to find a job...........
even applied for some working pupil jobs and still been rejected from them.

What the #$%& am i doing wrong why cant i find a job with horses. I know my experience is not high but if no one gives me a chance where am i going to get the experience.

Dont think the 100 quid a week jobs are going to be enough for me to live on. Looking for something f/t or p/t ideally as close to Newmarket as poss maybe further afield. Also looking at temp stuff in the UK and abroad.

If all else fails, i'd go abroad. The wages sometimes aren't the great but it depends where you go.

I'm not much help since I would loathe a grooming job (just watching Mum sends a shiver down my spine) but there are a lot of places that would take you on. Just keep trying! :)

I'm in Aus at the mo, not having much luck think its more out of season though and not on a working visa only holiday, option to come back

This is my dream to work with horses somehow, at the moment it feels like i should give up and work in any job available that i would absolutley hate

I'm also struugling to find work. I'm 27 and have worked with horses since leaving school. I've run a riding school, worked in livery yards, worked with int 3day eventers, show ponies, broodmares and youngstock and been a sole charge hunt groom. I have NVQ level 2, a diplomer in stable management, certificate in equine behavour and a holistic approach to horse care. There just isn't much work around and all the jobs I have found and even been offered have been s**t pay and cr** conditions. My OH is starting to insist I get a "real" job. ie stacking shelves at tesco :( :( So i'm hoping something comes up soon.

Good luck with your search I hope you find something soon.

Sounds like some of you are qualified for the jobs you are applying for. Some working student places know they will work you like dogs for rubbish money (not ALL working student places!!) so wont take you on thinking you will quit after a couple of weeks having had so much experience elsewhere (from experience that is what I have found). Have you tried going freelance? I have never earnt so much money freelancing, dogwalking, housesitting then getting a cleaning job on the side with a swimming teaching job as well (taking a year out of uni though this isnt a life plan but it is sustaning me and my horse well - I am currently living with my parents though)
