They always have the horses neighing when they canter or rear or similar, my horses never neigh just because they are having a play/canter etc, you think research would be done to show that this is completely incorrect, its something that really bugs me when i'm watching anything where horses have a role.

Perhaps I just need to get a life ..............:D

They also rear too much. It may be dramatic, but also very dangerous in real life!!

I used to ride a pony, who just shouted at everything when she was hacked alone :p She would put movie horses to shame! Funny thing, she wasn't spooky or silly, just loud.

It drives me bananas too! The odd one or two, annoying but fine, if you must... but I started to watch Black Beauty when it was on over Xmas but had to turn it off as the horses were constantly neighing, or rearing when they were in the field/loose...

I may need to get a life too....

Haha! I used to get wound up by the old Westerns where someone would jump on a horse and gallop flat out leaving a town, then much later gallop flat out into another town on the same horse. Usually the horse wasn't even sweating either.

Very fit, those cowboy horses. :D

One movie that didn't bother me was Spirit. It's rare for a cartoon to have none-speaking main characters, so they needed SOME noise so kids wouldn't get bored.

This made me laugh we always comment on this it is funny they always do it in movies, they will add the sound effects later but you would think that the people who supplied the horses to film companies would put them right at some point.

In movies about horses specifically they will also have advisors who I am sure must tell them its not right but it must be one of those things they think looks right and non horsey people do think horses do things they dont.

I cant remember what I was watching but there was a race, the horses were galloping and this main character horse was loosing. The next minute the rider said something and the horse apparently whinnied in a reply and then started winning. It really irritates me aswell!!

I wonder why horses never fart in movies lol

I did LOL to this!!! Excellent - have you not seen these 'out take' programmes?? 'It'll Be Alright on the Night' that's one of them, sure I have seen clips with horses doing just that and making the actors laugh!

I can't stand 'canned horse whinny' either. My naughty playful stallion was rearing in the field today, trying to get me to chase him with the wheelbarrow, no noise though! He 'talks' to me when I am crossing the yard to feed him!!!! Whether he is in the field or in the stable. Actually he would make a great movie horse as he always canters up the field to me if he is eating at the bottom (cupboard love or should we call it feed bin love!?). ;)

I have to admit (being one of those people who doesn't watch films too closely), I'd always assumed they trained them to rear etc. with buckets of food. Mine tends to get very vocal when she sees a big bucket of food...

And the other innacuracies are astounding too. I watched an episode of Midsommer Murders where a 'racehorse' (more closely resembling an irish draft in close shots) lived in a farmers barn (old style with a hayloft overhead) alone, permanently plaited up.

And there is of course the magical pony in Starlight who can grow his own saddle!

The saddle club is one of the most un-realistic horsey programs I have ever seen   It drives me mad

For those who say that whinnying and cantering don't happen I have to disagree! My little sec C used to whinny at a good XC canter whilst hunting :D

My TB likes to whinny and canter, usually when I am late to get him in and he has something to say about the matter as he comes charging up the field :p :D :D

Lol!

What worries me is that the horse mad kids that watch it may think that it's realistic.

That noises the miniature donkey "makes" pee me off the most!

The one where veronica injures her horse whilst showjumping was the worst, I cringed as they played dramatic music while the horse stopped, dropped to his knees and rolled onto his side after a jump (he was supposesd to have broken a leg!!) Awful show :p

:D:D But then, Midsomer Murders is completely unrealist. I mean, would you buy a house there?

I've never heard of The Saddle Club. Is it kid's programme?

I must confess to hearing a little of The Archers on Radio 4 recently. A posh kid who's supposed to be horsey (has his own pony I think) asks his Mum after a ride, "Did you see me doing rising trot?" Hmmm. He's been riding how many years now?

Yes Fiona M12, I heard that bit in The Archers too. Don`t the horses/ponies in Shula`s stables whinny all the time too? Of course, the sheep are always bleating and those dratted dogs in the series bark whenever they are mentioned!
