as i posted earlier, found fantastic new yard. Ok its 10 mins away compared to the 2 mins that i have now and DIY instead of Part but its so much better in so many ways.

Not moving any time soon as not available till November but why is the thought of moving so scary??? I don't want to wait for next time it all kicks off at yard and leave in a huff but the thought of moving is so much easier at those times!

This is the only yard i've ever been at so keep thinking what if the new one isn't actually better at all??? what if my boys don't settle?? what if i can't cope with DIY?? Anybody else get these thoughts?

yep! Currently debating taking my horse to uni with me after christmas (also long way away, but I like to be prepared!) but I'll have to have her on DIY as it's the only thing I can afford and I've only ever done part before with lots of people I know around to help and advise me :s

I know how you feel. I have found a place on a new yard which is about 10mins away as opposed to the 4mins of my current yard.

Problem with current yard is that the school is unridable due to it being too deep, its awful.

So have found a new yard with really good facilities etc but i am sooo scared of moving.

I have a lot of good friends at my current yard which is why it is soo hard. But i need to go as soon the fields will be too slippery etc to ride in and then i will be stuffed, no school, not great hacking etc....

I think the same as you - what if i dont like it - what if she doesnt settle etc... What if i a making a huge mistake....

So you are not the only mad one....

good to know others feel the same. i think its just a big change and thats the scary part.

but from what other people have said, it always works out ok in the end and might be best decision you ever made!

School is same problem with me- i work till 5 and by the time i get back to ride it'll be dark in the winter and my horse is terrified of our lights which are at his eye level. This new yard has indoor school in winter!!!

Change is always scary! Just bear in mind why you are changing. (Because your current place doesn't suit your needs). If the worst came to the worst, its not a life or death situation and you could always move back at some point. Go for it I say

I moved last dec best thing I ever did Same reasons for moving .My horse was happier even with less grazing and 3 months after moving my old yard closed .The yo was a complete t**t and I was fed up with things kicking off.I could have picked easier month as it was just before xmas but if your move is as good as mine you will be much happier.

Thanks guys.

Moving definately does make sense and I'm betting my horses will be so much happier as they will have paddock to themselves and consistency for once.

I know, indoor school in winter will be so incredible!!! well worth moving for in itself i think!

You'll be absolutley fine. You know i moved from a 2 min walk to a 5 min drive but H is happier and so am I. YO leaves me to it, all the things i wanted and you'll be the same.

As for being DIY as long as your organised it can work. I have been managing H before and after work (ok it's not winter yet but plannin lots of layers) and if it makes you feel any better rolling out of bed and going to the yard, is all worth while when you see their faces waiting for you.

You and your ponies deserve to be happy, go for it!!

i know how you feel everytime i got to look at a yard i just find myself trying to pick fault with it as the thought of moving is so scary i am still looking though just not found the one that i have no doubts about

You have all the doubts that I did when I wanted to leave my old yard. I had been there for almost 15 yrs, but the school was rubbish and people were always fighting to use it in the mornings so unless you booked 3 weeks in advance, it was hopeless. Also, there was one rule for one and another for certain people, this really peed me off.
I was lucky cos I bought a new horse and moved it straight to another yard, keeping my other horse at old yard as they were only 5 mins away from each other. This gave me a chance to check it out, the routine of other liveries etc.
I was really pleased with the new yard and its facilities, so as soon as another stable came empty, I took my other horse to new yard. This was after 4 months. New horse settled quickly but my other horse is quirky and a tense machine so she didnt really settle well till I moved her into an indoor stable with just 2 others. Now I have the 2 horses together in indoor stables and I love them being together. My horses both look well and I have been taking them out a lot more to shows and its the best thing I did. The nervous, flighty one has calmed down and is now a lot more relaxed.
We`ve been there over 18 months and I wouldnt go back to the old place even tho I miss some of the people up there.
Best thing to do is go there and try to imagine your horses there and working your horses and being around the yard and the other liveries. Good Luck. x

well the horsey world is a very small one. i would make sure you leave on good terms at old yard, notice as per contract and discuss with owner the reeasons you are leaving. make sure you leave everything clean and tidy as you never know when you may have to go back, your reasons for leaving if you were a good livery maybe the reason the YO upgrades the facilities. DIY is a big change to part. do your costings in time and petrol and tyres. good luck in moving or staying put.

thanks Peanot, glad that it all worked out and ur horses are happy

can def imagine myself at new yard. was walking round thinking oooh could do that and do that!

welshmonster- keep looking, you'll get there! don't settle for 2nd best unless you have to. theres plenty out there :-) good luck.

thanks OCYC-

think your right, as long as we leave on good terms theres always spaces so we could go back if we really really wanted to.

I was petrified at the thought of moving s I was at excellent yard, facilties were top class, horses well looked after and everything well maintained, however as with all things I felt the need for a change and decided that I wanted more control over Tylers care.

I moved to a yard that I am now on Part livery and the thought was scary but I knew that no matter what happened we would both be fine.

Love the new yard, but still hold found memories of previous
