Why is my best friend playing me up :(

I have a six year old cob who i have owned for five and a half years, he is not only my horse but he really is my best friend my baby lol. He was easy to break and has always enjoyed his work but the year befor last we was out in company and had a canter where i ended up being bucked off which i took as he must of spooked but now he reacts really bad if riding out and if we see other horses in fields running either up to us or just having a blast he will start to jig then buck . Im at the end of my nreves and really need some advice people tell me to ride him through it but im totally scared and dred going out, he will react the same in the school if a horse is running about. I had a bad fall and nearly lost my leg so this doesnt help. I've thought about selling him but I just can't hes my boy and i love him to pieces. Any ideas or help are welcome with open arms. It's tough when you have had a scare

Can you get someone experienced to hack him out for you a few time just to iron out any problems? If your feeling nervous he is proberly getting it from you and you will be no help to each other at all!

As he is only six, it sounds like this behaviour could be down to him being a baby and just getting a bit excited! Have you considered having some lessons with a patient, qualified instructor? This would do you and your horse the world of good and help your confidence to improve. You could even get the instructor to ride him a bit for you to help to improve his confidence too. Hope this helps.

I am having lessons and he's going well we both are, he just becomes stupid when hacking out and i think your right i think it could be all babyish and will try and find some one to ride him out as i probably don't help. thanks to you both for replies

Poor you. That does sound scary.

As he's so young it sounds like he's going through his adolescent stage which can and should be nipped in the bud asap. It would be great if you could get an instructor to help you through this, not only teaching you how to deal with him, but also to ride him so they know what you're dealing with and can give you specific advice.
