Why on earth is my dog so obsessed with food? Will always eat anything given to her, will scoff her dinner and mine if given half the chance, will steal if given an 1/8th of a chance. Came home the other night and she had managed to get in the oven ...

So am I feeding her enough. Greyhound weighs 5 stone [heavy little g*t] gets fed 1 mug of 18% protein mix and two wheetabix in the morning then tea time 2 mugs of dry mix and any left over cooked veg.

Now when I had her from the resuce they said she had been starved - so does she not think she will never be fed again? Has she a gold fish memory when she is fed thus forgetting she has been fed? Is it an Irish thing?

Any suggestions ....

Dougal is a menace with food...

eats anything you drop even if its not edible

snarls and bites if you go near him when hes eating or anywhere near his bowl

and needs physically removed from the bin with an umbrella/thick gloves and body armour....

hes bitten me 3 times when moving him away from food

Stella will do *anything* for food.

She is a bit of a gastronome, too. Favourite foods include steamed kale, aged manchego, goat yoghurt, raspberries, chopped peppers...and duck poo

I think if they've been starved in the past they can develop a bit of an obsession when food becomes more available. Hounds do have a bit of a reputation for thieving though.....my whippets are exactly the same, will steal absolutely anything and everything, even straight after a huge tea, there's always room for more. Doesn't have to be actual food either, if they find a bit of kitchen roll or greaseproof paper with a hint of food left on it that goes too
