Please help!
My lovely laid back boy has recently started biting over last few month and it getting worse, i am covered in them.
He is stabled between 3 mares, one each side and one at the back of him. The mare on one side keeps lunging over wall at him and his face is covered in bites. Could this be why he is now nipping out at me?
He has had teeth checked, saddle and back checked though getting them done again to be sure. He hardly ever get treats and generally is happy. Stabled at night with haylage and is out in the day with a herd of other geldings.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated, thanks for reading xxx

I would say that your horse is pretty stressed surrounded by hormonal mares. Could he be moved to another stable away from them? Biting you is probably his way of saying help I cant cope with them. Poor lad getting bitten. He must be very agitated. At my yard the girls and boys are in separate fields away from eachother and the stables are styled so that mares and geldings may be next to eachother but cant get to eachother atall.

I would agree with that he may be stressed and is trying to tell you something, regardless biting is not acceptable a good way to stop it is to pinch him back hard as this will resemble a bit and will be the way he would be punished in the herd. If this doesn't work with my horse I stamp on his foot, hard! He hasn't bitten since :p
