Went along with the BF to see my horse this morning and she was a bit in your face but probably just because she associates him with food! Gently reminded her to keep her distance, wandered over to the grooming station with her at my side.
I don't normally tie her up to groom as she is a big fan of scratches and just stands, but when I got to doing her belly which she normally absolutely loves she started the ears back going to bite, told her off and then she bit me hard on the arm!
So I growled at her and stomped towards her to back her up which is what I normally do if she is being bolshy, then she reared at me which was unexpected! Stood my ground as best I could, got her headcollar on and took her back to pick her feet, she wasn't really having that either, but managed to do them all in the end with a bit more of an encouraging tone and then she seemed normal again.
She obviously didn't think much of my angry tone! Does this sound like she is just being mareish? I do not have much experience of mares being hormonal, apart from one and she was pretty much nasty most of the time!
I am a bit baffled by mares seasons to be honest, she seems to have had two individual week long 'flirty' episodes in the two or so months I had her, at which times she was her usual lovely self and not at all stroppy.
She is normally amazingly good on the ground, a bit bolshy when I first got her but with a wave of the hand she moves away and stands to wait for food etc. She is very quick to pick up on what you mean and quite trainable, but she is a tank and has definitely got to know her own strength at some point. I know she did parelli stuff with her first owner, can I just blame the P word? Haha!
