if it was possible to tear your hair out i would be bold now!!!
sorry this isnt horsey!!! but im proper annoyed!!

i got a new vehicle yesterday and i changed my insurance over so i could drive it home, but my insurers failed to tell me that it would be upto 48 hours untill this info would go online and i could tax the car as it has be declared of the road! so i had to drive it home with no tax!!
so i rang dvla this morning and explained that iv only just insured it and wont recieve my unsurance certificate for a few days, they then informed me that there is a postal strike
shocked.gif
so the post office is accepting emails and faxes of insurance documents for taxing cars!! result i thought! got on to my insurers and they said we cant email you a cover note!! so they faxed me something that was no help at all, it was a confirmation of insurance, so the post office turned me away and said that my insurer is obliged to give me a cover letter to which there reply was no we dont issue cover letters, only what we have already faxed you, fat lot of help they were, so i rang the post office! who were the most helpfull out of all of them and the nice man explained they could only acept something with certificate written on it. and that they have had alot of phonecalls like this because not all insurers will issue cover notes!!
im highly highly annoyed at my insurer for not helping me anymore, there response to "well what am i meant to do when i NEED to use my vehicle and i cant tax it because you wont give me a cover note" they said, there isnt much i can do about it madam

ahh im so glad i have got that off my chest!!!
cornetto if you get this far!

I'll take that cornetto, then!

I hear ya, it's like going around in circles sometimes with these people. It's always some other department that's responsible, until the last one sends you back to the first one, and the corporate structure is such that no one has the authority to do anything even if everyone acknowledges that the situation is stupid---and even if they could technically make the decision, they won't, because they might be held responsible...

Have a fried banana with chocolate sauce!

ooh they are gona get some stick!! believe me!!!!

I had similar happen. I paid for 365 days fully comp insurance but was officially unable to use my car during the first 5 days as I didn't have the certificate in time to tax my car. Moral of my story is, get your ass in gear and reinsure earlier!

This problem seems to be the worst thing about online Insurers as far as I can see. They will send the certificate overnight for £7.50 though.

im on hold with tesco now and the person is speaking with there manager!!! finally someone with brains!!!

but still completely useless, so looks like im going to have to drive to the yard with no tax and wait till tomorow untill my details are updated online so i can tax online,
but he has assured me when the postal strike is finnished that mine will be ones of the first through!! fat lot of good that is if i get caught!! coz they will be paying my fine if i do!!!

I am with Kwik Fit Insurance and when I changed my car last week they emailed me the docs through within the hour and I just printed off the insurance certificate to tax the car.

The post office never even queried the fact it was obviously a print out copy, some insurers nowadays don't even send postal copies, they do it all via email to save on postage and paper.

I'd be changing my insurer.

Also be aware that if you tax online the disc will go to the registered keeper. The DVLA may take several weeks to transfer that ownership so your new disc could end up with the car's previous owner. Much better to take the green slip, the insurance cert and the MOT cert into the post office and get a tax disc immediately.

luckily she is a friend and only lives a couple of miles away so thats not an issue, but would be easier if i did it at the post office! but they wont give me anything to do it, they said they have a few calls about cover letters, well bl00dy do something about it then!!!

also you still wont get your tax disc for at least 5 days and you are mean to have your tax disc on display. or the police can strill do you for not having tax

If you buy on line your car is classed as taxed and you will not get done for not displaying tax as the police and tell straight away its taxed as it comes up on the computer.

Sorry, but this is wrong. You will not get done for having no tax, but you can and WILL get done for not DISPLAYING your tax disc. This is a totally separate offence from that of having no tax. You can be driving merrily along with your valid tax disc in your glove box, and if you get the wrong copper on a bad day, you can be prosecuted for not displaying a valid tax disc.
