so all i have been able to do with him is ride him in the arena in all that time, flat work.

Holly has no shoes but is footy on a hard surface so needs her front two put back on again all i've been able to do with her is ride in the arena, took her jumping and she was ok but as soon as we walked out the arena on to concrete she didn't feel right.

Am sick and tired of this farrier thats how many weeks and he's still not turned up?

Are they all like this?? Or do we just have a sh!t one?

My old farrier is an alcoholic. He was always too hung over in the mornings to get going early & by 11am he would be in the pub. The rare occasions he turned up you could smell the whisky on him at 10 foot away and it could take up to 50 phone calls & 6 weeks of nagging to get him to turn up to shoe my horses. I wonder why I changed!!!

I think they are all the same, my boy has one glue shoe still on and the other hoof really trimmed back hard with a lighweight shoe (must be like wearing a stiletto and a trainer!) and hubby's horse is over due to be shod now, we have left FIVE messages for him and nothing!

My farrier is brilliant, but probably a bit too far to come to you.

He's not the cheapest of them, but he's so efficient, and if you need any remedial type of shoeing, he's really good at this, and has done wonders on my boys feet.

Was my daughters' 18th last week, and he has made her a hoofpick out of a horseshoe, and personalised it with her horses name on it. It's an original, and so thoughtful.

Good luck, and hope you get it resolved - pain in the derriere to have a problem farrier. I think TGM's husband is a farrier, but don't know how far they are from you.......might be worth a PM, as I'm sure she'd be able to recommend someone.

I could understand if one or more of them were badly behaved but only 4 every wear shoes and they are good as gold to be shoed and only 1 of the others won't stand still but she rarely needs her feet trimming.

I can asure you that not ALL farriers are like that, ours is fantastic, always early, never misses and comes out in an emergency. I agree with the others who have said report him and find someone else. Not always the easiest of things to do. Good luck.

Thanks susan_w, but I'm afraid Maidstone is well out of our area, I'm afraid. We're also not taking on new customers at the moment. I think that is part of the trouble, the reliable farriers tend to have full books, so it is not easy to change to them if you have a poor one.
