Sadly having to sell my lovely 16.3 ex racer. Am truly gutted as he is such a lovely horse. Made harder br receiving several calls asking if he would be good for a 10 yr old to do pony club on!! He is very laid back in the school-but pony club? hmmm
I think its because he is so cheap, he is worth alot more but I need a quick sale due to mega overstretched finances!! I think these non-horsey mums see £800 and think cheap horse for their kid or something :-(

Poor fella - could you not try to put him out on loan. I know you want a quick sale to help your finances, but £800 is more like meat money. I think you could be sending him on a very dark journey.

Just be patient and hold out for the right home - go and visit his new home and try and get references if at all possible.
Be prepared to say no alot until the right person comes along - just because someone wants him doesnt mean you have to say yes.

there is nothing wrong with him at all. he is actually a very nice horse! I looked around at other ex racers and most are between £700-£1000 and there are quite a few in my area. I thaught about loaning im but I wouldnt have anywhere to put him if he came back to me and if he gets ruined then I wont be able to sell him. Paranoid after so many horror stories!

selling is stressful when you get loads of numpties ringing, but its better they ring and you put them off than them turn up:).

Cant stand that. Last experienced rider i had over didnt know how to put on a running martingale...(i always get them to tack up:))

Nothing wrong with pony club, some excellent riders in it, with access to excellent tuition.

However a 10 year old may be different :p

TBH I think £800 is way too cheap and you are bound to get a lot of calls from unsuitable would-be owners. I'd be inclined to double the price and sell as a talented horse that needs an experienced rider. I HATE selling any animal. They are totally dependent on us to find the right home where they will be given the care they need. It can so easily go wrong, especially when some idiots will tell you anything to convince you they are suitable. Sadly we live in a throw away society and some people treat animals as they would a piece of furniture.

try googling scot north ex racer forum and advertise on there, ive just sold my ex racer via there, seems to be people always interested :)

Can totally sympathise.
Just tried to sell my lovely ex-racer at what i thought was a fair price but it was a nightmare.
'Not novice ride' obviously means 'will teach a novice to ride'
'ex-racer' obviously means 'never been raced'
and 'done basic schooling' means 'yes of course he will go round Badmington this year!'
Hope you have better luck than me :)

Sorry to hear you're having to sell your horse! Have you tried talking to other horsey people you know, or even local instructors or riding schools etc. They may know of someone who's looking for a horse like yours, then at least you would feel a little confident that they would be going to someone who knows what they're doing! Good luck.

This is exactly why I sent my boy away to be sold! He was a full up 14.2 competition pony with 2 seasons at BE under his belt and although very well schooled was a very "up for it" chap. Before I did anything I asked a few friends and the next thing I knew I had people ringing asking if he would be suitable for their 9 year olds as a 1st pony! I was so pleased I sent him away - sold to the most amazing home in 10 days:)
