As title.
I am absolutely disgusted that H & H don't see fit to celebrate our successful Paralympian Dressage team exactly the same way that they did for the normal Olympics.

Taken from Lee's FB page.

I'm really quite hurt and disappointed for me and the other Para Equestrian riders that we have heard that our national horse magazine 'Horse & Hound' will NOT be featuring the Gold Medal winning riders on their front cover. Since 1996 this team has won EVERY team Gold & only two riders have ever featured on the front cover.

What do you think?

No -one has though, not papers, TV nothing really.

I'm imagining its timing, editorial stuff not co-inciding with publication.

They may do a fabulous feature the week after. I cannot believe it will be ignored.

Not surprised. H&H have seem to have lost the plot. They have no idea what real people think, or are interested in.

Real shame for the paralympic team though. Haven't been able to see them on TV either. Its about time the media stopped treating them like 2nd class athletes and joined the rest of us in the 21st century.

If that is true then it is very very poor. I hope H&H see this and respond as I'm sure many of us would be interested to hear the reasoning for that....

Posting to bump this back to the top of the page.

Hoping that it will be next week as print timings...

If not, GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER H&H!!

Yes if its true its poor judgement by the H&H team. They were very tactful with the split cover for the dressage and jumping team medals so it would seem strange that they wouldn't give credit to our Para team by omitting them from the cover. Where's this information come from - has someone from the printers leaked the front cover?! Last weeks H&H says there will be 3 special reports this week: Burghley, The Paralympics and Scope. Based on this info it would seem the para write up will be in this weeks edition so given that it's an olympic event you would expect a cover to go with it. Tricky when you have several big events to cover in one issue and all winners deserve recognition, but surely the para's olympic achievement has got to take centre stage over the others. An ill-informed rumour perhaps?

Given that Burghley happens every year, and Andrew Nicholson winning it isn't exactly a huge surprise, and he isn't British, whereas the paralympics only happens every four years, and team GB did VERY well winning a medal in every event and section you would have thought the emphasis should have been the other way around. Could they not have done a big shot of the whole squad with their medals and then an inset image from burghley?

It would have been a more eye catching and memorable cover than just another XC picture.......

Just looked at the tweet. Sorry H&H, but if you think that is a justifiable front cover for our fab paralympic team you are mistaken!

That is not equal! What have they done with the designer that did the lovely cover with Carl and Peter - that one was fab! They could have easily put a para rider (on horse) butting up left hand side over the boat and shifted captions right around or cut over Avebury's legs. Bit of jiggling, bit of photoshop, job done, nice cover, everyone happy.

They shouldn't have featured Burghley on the front cover at all in my opinion, the para team are the top winning nation in equestrian events. Crikey the eventers got front covers galore for getting silver!!! Its shameful and a huge pity after they have been featuring para dressage more and more. Very bad editorial decision.

Just checked out the tweet and thats disgraceful. Burghley happens every year and the paralympics in london is a once in a lifetime event with all those british winners. Should have been the opposite way around. All i can say is shame on you H&H. Bought the post olympic edition as great edition with all the pics and things but feel i should boycot this on the grounds H&H will only realise what a mistake they have made if people dont buy it.

H&H that front cover is very bad form.

edited to say i have just emailed my complaint to the editor and i hope many others will do the same.

I too am very disappointed with the front cover of H & H but I am afraid it doesn't surprise me as I feel it has been changing over the last few years and now does not seem to cover the full range of horse activities like it used to.
I am interested in breeding and the coverage of things like the Futurity have been very poor. I am friends with the breeder of Zubin-R and there was virually nothing about him achieving 10 for his athleticism and yet the KWPN in Holland had it in their magazine and I believe it also featured in a magazine in Canada.
H & H lost me as a reader because of the way it has been changing and I don't think I shall be going back to it now.

I've checked and, yep, this is the 2st century and, yep, the Paralympics is the second largest sporting event on Earth. What the hell were the editorial team thinking??

Wow.....talk about a kick in the teeth!
Burghley is a yearly event....when the hell are we ever going to see our own guys and girls winning gold in their HOME COUNTRY????
What a blooming shame H&H could not show them the respect they have earnt!

Posted in the Latest News topic but will post the same in here

I can sort of understand why its happened (but don't support the decision at all). Burghley is a massive thing for H&H and always is so there is always going to be a big feature in the magazine, eventing is probably the most popular discipline for H&H readers and hence they decided it would attract more interest. Obviously, this is far from the truth, as I am much more likely to pick a magazine up with a wonderful photo of our Gold medal Paralympians on the cover, than one of Andrew Nicholson jumping a jump (a photo that will have no relevance for non-eventing/Burghley followers). Its really disappointing and a real error of judgement but hopefully they can try to get a bit of dignity back by putting our team on the front page next week.

I won't be boycotting the magazine though as I do want to read about our para dressage team as I didn't manage to catch many of the tests this week (C4's coverage is appalling).

Duplicating my comment on the other thread in the Olympics section.
Despite being in the thick of horse hunting I will forego my copy this week as it seems pretty shabby to me. I'm sure it's a great picture of Andrew N but who cares in this context.

Lots of noise but you'll all be buying it again next week .

Not me! I've only bought special issues for the last few years, H & H have been a disappointment since they were bought out. For anyone who was used to the superb coverage and reporting of shows, sales, studs, hunting reports and articles of yesteryear from the 50s to the 80s, H &H has been a let down ever since. It used to be the Bible but now it's a comic.
