Why isnt my friends pony selling?

one sentence..."would make a lovely PC/RC mount"

at the age of 10 and for 3k i would of liked her to have been at that level for the last 5 yrs.....................

same as WRB to be honest at 10 it should have done things/been out and about, and to be honest people/kids are back at work and school so dont have the time to view or are waiting till spring- I have found that in order to sell people have been lowering their prices, not good for sellers- but good for buyers like me!

Ahh ok, thought u meant in general.
Was a bit

Past her prime at 10?

as in "would make"....or "potential".......too old to be a "potential" i feel..

Hi, she's my pony.....

Do you think that one sentence is really making a big difference? It's hard to be objective when you're so close; what I meant was she is currently working at a level that she is ready to go out and do things, but hasn't as I don't have transport...

I was also a bit unsure what to say about the "novice" thing - she is actually ridden by a couple of novice riders, one of whom has learned from scratch on her, but she's a bright mare and might start to take liberties without a competent handler.

She IS green for 10, but at the same time (I hope) not being advertised as a competition pony. She is capable of a nice Prelim dressage test, and is jumping, but I only started jumping her when we got her a year ago, and I wanted to be totally honest that she's not a push-button ride over fences, and will back off if you smack her in the mouth.

I'm trying to be totally honest about her, but not sure I'm doing it in the right way? Any constructive feedback very gratefully received, even if I've not made a lot of sense!

i think the fact she hasnt been out and about at 10 needs to be reflected in the price tag. I would be suspicious of that as well. Especially as clearly the present owner hasnt had her for the whole of the pony's life. Why didnt the previous owner compete her?
Just me though

Agreed.

If she does a nice Prelim test then say that - I advertised my pony for loan as that, as that's what he does. At 11 he was too old to talk about potential or "would make nice". What he IS is a fun pony for someone who doesn't want to do anything too taxing.

I personally wouldn't pay that price for an 11yo that's only just started jumping.

Hi Daphnelia, would you expand for me on what you would be suspicious of?

I feel like I want to leap to the defense of my pony

but I shan't, as it's more valuable to hear a stranger's unbiased take on it...

Bless, please understand I have been conned more than once! So am very suspicious when looking at adverts. I think I would be wondering why she hasnt been out and about, and perhaps if there was an explanation like lack of transport, might put that in the ad. She sounds very nice though. Im certainly not critisising your pony

Lol, I know there are con artists around, which is why I try really hard to be honest.

She was a brood-mare and farm pony before we had her, so has pretty much had all her education apart from bumbling about, in the last year or so, but I don't know whether having been a brood mare is a good thing to put in an ad or whether it puts people off?

I've been so lucky that I've never had to advertise a horse before, so it's my first time, and I feel very lost

hm I dont know, fair enough though. That explanation would set my mind at ease

good luck with her let us know how you get on. Im sure others on here will have some good suggestions

It might be relevant to mention more about her breeding (if it is any good) as well as saying she has been a brood mare, you then explain why she is low mileage and may add value. If she has a good straight action then big that up a bit more and just mention that she hasn't done much jumping and would need bringing on in that sphere, especially if she has passed something good on to her offspring. If they are competing that is also worth a mention.

I think she looks nice, your description of her could include some of the things you've discussed on this thread....why she has low mileage etc. Additionally the first 2 photos look nice. First one showing her looking lovely & having fuin, 2nd shows a nice movement but the remaining 2 don't add anything. The third is not as good as No2 & the 4th shows nothing really. You mention scopey jump, unfortunately this photo doesn't show it. The jump is out of shot & her legs aren't tucked up nicely.
In short you have a nice pony there, edit your add to include more explanation & put in a couple of better photos.
Also at this time of year there are alot oif horses/ponies for sale with people not wanting the winter livery bill on a pony that's for sale. If this is a factor it may be better to reduce her price & save on livery...up to you really but good luck, she's s pretty pony.

For me your advert came across as very honest and your mare looks like a lovely sort, albeit a little green.

Its a funny time to sell, we always look for ponies from between Feb and April, sometimes a little earlier if kids are ready to move up.

Price is a little over what I would be willing to pay and I confess that living in east anglia I would be put off by travelling to wales. Saying that I have in the past and our best pony came from there but that sounded too perfect not to travel to Cardigan (and he was). Good luck xx

Thankyou to all for your helpful opinions. To those who feel she is overpriced, what price would you suggest, to include tack and rugs? I found it really difficult to price her as I couldn't find anything equivalent advertised
