Why isnt she selling? help please

Hi guys,

Have had my lovely mare advertised for nearly a month now, and so far ive had all of one phone call, and one person come to look at her (which wa sa timewaster, seemed really keen, then just decided she didnt want her after all

) Shes advertised on every website i can think of- horsequest, horsemart, horsedeals, H&H you name it, and is in a couple of magazines too, but have still had hardly any interest in her.
Is it because her price is too high? Ive already dropped it once and would be willing to go a bit lower, but everyone that knows her, and how good she is says id be stupid to let her go for less than £8k. I know its a bad time of year to be selling, and with the weather being so rubbish, but i really expected to have had a bit more interest by now.

I really hope this isnt breaking any t&c's, am honestly not posting this to advertise, i just want to know where im going wrong. (this is the first time ive sold a horse so am a bit clueless really!) Thanks in advance
 
Firstly she looks a fantastic mare and I would say you have done a nice advert, but I'm no expert.

The only thing I would say is price, possibly a tad expensive in this climate.

I also don't like to see oiro, it puts me off .

most likely the time of year! christmas and new year people are too busy to look except maybe joyriders on holiday! jan and current weather no one is doing anything. tax bills are due end of jan etc. you havent listed her total winnings, and if she has any doule clears for this season, not her BD points if she has any? and on top of all the above the country has been in a bit of a recession for quite a while! Not the most knowledgable on elite horses, but I would say the photos' dont do her justice, and a lack of info to prove competition exp? Those would be my thoughts anyway,

As you say - sadly the weather really isnt helping at the moment - is there no way you could keep her till the spring and sell on then?
 
lovely mare, shame she's too big for me!! i think it's a good advert, but maybe drop the price a tad because of the current climate, and instead of putting OIRO maybe put open to sensible offers? x

i think someone would snap her up for £8k/£9k, but once it gets into 5 figures i think it seems quite a bit of money :/

I would say for what she has done she is over priced. The photos do not do her justice, and the jumping photo is nothing special. You do not say how much she has won bsja. Do you not have any Prof photos of her compeating?

What where her marks for the dressage?

She is 9 but not done a lot to date really, the photo does not scream a top class competition prospect to me either, she dosnt really look scopy in the jumping pic.

You say a lot of peopel know her is no one intrested in buying her who knows her?

How old if is the foal and what is he doing now?

It is a bad time of year for selling, but i woudl say she was worth 3-4 grand tops by the description and what she has under her cap witch isnt a lot im afraid.

I have to agree with that IMO - horses arent really selling at the mo and if they are, they tend to be alot cheaper

Nice horse. She probably isn't selling because of the time of year and in the "current climate" her price might be a little too high. Also I don't think the main pic does any justice - it's too blurry.
 
Agree with photos not doing her justice. However, I have just picked up a lovely Hannoverian winning at discovery for a lot less, could be the time of year? You should either hang on, be patient, or lease out with a view to getting more experience as I don't think you will get the price you deserve at the moment IMO. The best of luck...
 
I'm no expert but the main photo doesn't 'pop'. Its a bit fuzzy. Try to find a really sharp, impressive shot of her, prefferable in action at a show. The pic is the first impression, so I'd make sure it was spot on.

I don't think many horses are selling ATM. TBH I would get some better pics as I don't think they do her justice. On the comp pic of her jumping she is a bit dangly with her legs, and on both pics of her at home she looks to be jumping a bit long and flat, and not basculing. If this was an eventer I wouldn't worry too much, but seeing as she is being marketed as a showjumper capable of jumping 1.25 tracks I would want to see that she has a good technique. In the dressage picture she looks good, so I would keep that one. But in the head shot it looks like there is quite alot of pressure being applied to the bit and she is fighting it. Also you don't mention how much BSJA winnings she has. I would say she is worth £8000, but I dont think you are doing yourself any favours by pricing her at £10000. Drop her advertised price to somewhere between £8500 - £9500 and you will hopefully get more interest. A £9000 horse sounds alot cheaper than £10000 as it isn't five figures!!!!!!

I hope that doesn't sound too harsh, but those were my thoughts. The rest of the advert sounds really good though!!!!!
 
She is the same description (other than colour)as a horse i bought 3 years ago for £7,000 which i thought was quite alot then when the economic climate was much much better. She is lovely but agree with others for £10k i would expect to see top class pics from shows she has done also the winnings info and dressage percentages and level with sheets available to view.
 
just a couple of points

what are her BSJA winnings? rather just saying she has some, this makes a difference on what she is eligible for so I would want to know in the advert.

The pics are poor, particularly the jumping ones as this is her main advert point. IME they should be clear, up to the height you say she is jumping and over a good spread, pref when competing.

and add a confo shot.

she just doesnt look a 10k mare in those pics.

and elevated is spelt wrong

I dont know about price though so not commenting on that!
 
There is no mention of any winnings as such, I know you say competed at Fox level and has BSJA winnings - how much?

Could you not affiliate BD and get her some points so she has a better competition record maybe?

I would take better photos as I feel that for a 10k horse she isn't being shown to her best.

I personally think she is overpriced for the market at the moment, there seem to be lots of very proven horses for a lot less money. I know you mention on here 8k but it does say £10k on the advert although you do mention offers.

Saying that though, with some better pics and if she is as straight forward as you say you may get lucky with somebody wanting a safe horse but doubtful at 10k though.

yes, a conformation pic would help, then maybe get a professional picture of her jumping rather than the current one which looks 'amateurish' for the 10k price (sorry, thats not ment to be offensive, but I think people would perhaps be more impressed by one of her out competing or something). Then maybe drop the price to 9k but accept 8? That's if you are desperate to sell now. If you can hold on for a few months, you woulf probably get a better quality of people phoning up and as such could get more. It is a difficult time to sell weather-recession-after xmas and all that. People are just feeling the 'pinch' so to speak. Good luck though, she does look like a lovely quality mare.
 
Lack of quoted winnings. Lack of pro photos.

If you were to have pro photos and recorded winnings, then she's worth what you are asking, given her grading and performance at both dressage and jumping. She actually strikes me as a mare you might get more for sold through a pro sales yard.

I disagree. £3000 is extremely under priced for a 1.20 competition horse.
However, i think about £7000-£8500 would be a sufficient price in this climate.

Lovely mare but as others have said maybe a tad overpriced at 10k.

Also, realistically most potential buyers wouldn't even be able to drive to you at the moment and if they had a new horse they wouldn't be able to ride it, so someone would have to be quite keen to want to buy now. Might be better to withdraw her from the market now and re-advertise in spring when the weather is a bit better.
 
As something aimed at the jumping market i'd be put off by the pictures TBH. You say she's jumping NCs/fox but are no decent competiton pictures. The main picture is blurry too so its hard to tell how scopey the mare is, and for a horse that is jumping 1.40 at home the fence doesnt look that impressive (not sure how big those A frames are, perhaps its the perspective?).

Also, i'd like to know *exactly* what her winnings are.

I think if you got some clearer pictures, especially jumping ones, including some of her at competiton, you'd catch peoples eye alot easier. Depending on her record, i wouldnt say 10k is too much, you might have to wait around a while to get it though.

The price i suggested was based on the info and the photos in the advert.

I made an opinion based on the asumption i was after a competition horse, and had seen that advert.

If there where better photos, and if there where more information about winnings, reasults ect, then maybe i would feel she was worth more.
We can all only go off what the OP tells us the mare has acheived and is capable of. Its about having an advert that catches the eye and makes people want to know more. The advert just dosnt do that.
 
Simples - poor photos and probably over-priced. Prefer the text that went with the ad you had in H&H.
