i seem to have taken a step backwards today! After quite a few weeks of hacking on my own with mounting confidence (even laughing at a 5 minute 'discussion' with her on monday resulting in running backwards a number of times and dragging me into the bushes!) Today i only went out for 10 minutes before i turned her back with the 'wobbles' She had a tantrum at the ever growing numbero f caravans and awnings (sp) and toilet tents ect on the way out so YO led her past but apart form that she was perfect! I knew the contractors had started to cut the fields and although i couldnt see any i started to worry that if i went far they would be there with the combines by the time i came back - so i gave in to my imaginary fears and, much to Juno's delight came back. (She ran past the caravans sideways on the way home!) I then took my trailer to the garage for repair and on the way home saw there was no sign of the harvesters - so im kicking myself for being such a woooz! The sun is shining here and is lovely with no wind - just perfect for riding - WHY AM I SUCH A IDIOT!!!! (answers on a postcard please!)

Don't be so hard on yourself. You weren't feeling confident today so you came home, that's fine. Just don't dwell on it, everyone has days when they don't feel very brave. Next time go out as though today never happened, put it to the back of your mind. The worst thing you can do is have a go at yourself about it as you'll then build it up in your mind.

You did very well to do what you did, so give yourself a pat for that.
You did the right thing in coming home if you felt like that, as you wouldn't have been giving her the right signals if you weren't 100% yourself.
Well done.

Can you not try rescue remedy to help with the nerves? If you can feel a bit more relaxed maybe that might help.

thanks magic104 - i havent needed that for ages now - i have (or had) got to the stage where i was hardly nervous at all - so this is a real surpirse to have the old feelings back again for no apparent reason! x

thanks kate - actually you are right i think - she would have def reacted to my nerves - will try again next week - we are going to the forest for a blast on sunday with a freind so hopefully it will be a confidence building exercise for vboth me and her!

Thank you! I think I can only hack out with confident people who can put up with my muttering "oh my god, oh my god" under my breath at regular intervals...

We have ALL done something like that if we are truly honest. There is always another day. In 12 months you will look back at this and laugh.

It's much better to win a small battle than to lose a large war. I never take Ty on with certain things if I feel I can't win - it's just not worth it.

You def did the right thing!

Some days you just can't cope with the battle! Another day, you'll be up for it and will get past the spooky things. In the general scheme of things, it doesn't matter that you came back in fact it was probably the wisest thing to do when you were feeling jittery. I know what it's like, I get like it myself lots.

Tomorrow is another day - I get bad nerves & sometimes have to call it a day . Remember , a nervous rider is often a very sensitive one & ' in tune' with their horse , which I think is a good thing .

Please don't beat yourself up about it ! You sound as though you have made excellent progress . Think of it as , say , having four faults instead of a clear round - not the end of the world & try the Rescue Remedy .

Good luck !
