I am so annoyed with my cob Tess. Yesterday I took my dogs on a quick walk round the block when I set off the horses were at the gate so I gave them both a stroke and set off. 20 minutes later I returned, went straight to the stables to open the doors up ready to bring the girls in, while I am doing this I can hear shouting so I look across to the field to see our neighbours (who I don't always see eye to eye with) shouting and waving at me. I run down to where they are to find Tess stuck in the ditch! There is absolutely no grass where she was as its kind of scrub land and she had a huge pile of haylage in the field, plus the field is not completely bare if they venture down the bottom but they tend to hang around where I put the haylage, but yet she'd decided to trash the perfectly decent fence and go through to the other side and proceed to shred her turnout rug on all the branches, brambles etc surrounding the ditch.
When I went to catch her she was completely caught up in all the brambles and refusing to move as they were caught in her tail, tangled in her feathers and mane and she had a branch virtually up her bum!!
So my question is why do our lovely horses feel the need to do silly things like this? I could understand if it was lush grass on the otherside! Plus this now means I am going to have to repair the fence and go turnout rug shopping grrr! but I suppose I should be grateful that my other mare didn't follow otherwise I would be buying 2 new rugs.
