So any takers???

note that the facial expression is of a 12 stone woman attemting to anchor 1 tonne of hyperactive cob to the ground while he did his best impersonation of a racehorse being led to the start of the grand national. We did 4 weeks of in hand walking, in the end he had to be on long lines as I couldn't hold him even in a bit.

have fuuuun!! You will like him when he is mended ;)

Haha love the pic!!!

See its not that hes strong... Today he just preferred 2 legs instead of 4 thankfully it was the front legs on the ground!!!

Think i may admit defeat tbh he's off to a livery yard next week as im going away with work and theres noway my mum would handle him!! I may see if they fancy a new resident for a few months... The best part being they have a walker!! :D What with the mud covering our road now until feb time (dont you love living next to a farm when its winter!!) its only going to get increasingly harder to walk him safely and by that i mean i dont wana fall flat on my bum in the mud cuz a leaf moved in his general direction!!

And yes your right ill adore the little fudger when hes fixed and im back out competing untill then... Its debateable!!

You dont fancy him then adorablealice??? Lol

Hes a real jekyl and hide went out at 7am and he was a donkey, out at lunch not so much!!!

The fuzzy furry thanks hes back in on monday for a rescan so im going to beg my vet to let me back on board, he will be fine as of next week.... Well i will be!!! as hes in full livery for 3 weeks whilst im away with work and then im buggering off on holiday for 10 days!! Im sure ill miss him an ickle bit whilst im sunning myself!!

Its just been one of those days when an idiotic horse reduces you to tears in your lunch break!!

I love him really... Just not right now!!

He is grand and I love his colour. I walked my horse after 11 months in the barn, well two of us actually, all 17.2 of him. He is very sensitive to acp and 30mg just took the edge off him, plus the roller and side reins so he pulled against himself before taking us on. Snaffle bit with a long line each side and a dually halter with a rope on each pull ring.

He did sit my friend in the ditch one morning and the vet decided it would be safer on him at the end of the first week. He was a total gentleman under saddle.

Good luck and don't let go under any circumstances !

I think you misunderstood the vet :) you have to walk the horse in hand for 20 mins a day. lets break that down to make it simple
you have to walk
the horse should be in hand
for 20 mins a day

Where in there does it say the horse should be walking? the horse has the correct interpretation and is quite rightly ensuring that you get your walk and he gets rid of some energy :D :D :D

I had the same issue.
I moved my horse temporarily to another yard to use their walker until my horse was fixed.

After the next injury and my again could start walking out my vet asked so which yard are you taking him to this time!

The vets do it because they know we will worry about it & because we are worrying about waking pony out we forget about the vet bill that is due to drop through our letterbox :)
(apologies if I offend any vets - wouldn't be without mine they are great )

When mine had had 2 months of it, I gave him a teeny weeny electric fenced paddockette in front of his box - we called it his house and garden. That allowed him to see the big wide world and move but without enough space to get up steam - mind you, he is an eco horse (conserves energy whenever possible :)). Eventually he had 10 minutes in the school twice a day.

Pansy thankfully i dont see the vet bill.... The insurance does!!!

JillA i tried an electrified pen.... He went through it!!!

Im sure he will calm down eventually....

Because it works!
I had to start with this after 3 months total box rest of a full T.B.
Valerian was my friend ;-)
Wendals Special calmer is ace!

Jenni_ nope your welcome to him.... Just return the begger when hes fixed... Thanks!!!! :D nahhhh i do love his annoying little habits really and thankfully hes a dream to ride!! I just wana ride him again!!!

Milkmaid.... I know it works but that doesnt mean i have to enjoy it surely?!! :P

We had one who we found better to walk out in the dark, people laughed seeing us walking round the school in the pitch black when we had been there in daylight, till they saw the damn thing go over backward in daylight! However I am a sedelin fan for hand walking!

Even my 13.2hh pony seemed to tense up and grow 2 hands and prance about like a twit, squealing and bucking.
im so glad im past that point now :)
good luck! :D

I'll offer you a swap.... I'll have your horse if you would like mine

17.3 wb x tb mare...biggest wooss in the world, can rear if put under to much pressure, likes to have a damn good 'let's jump about and behave like tigger moment' and doesn't care if you are on the ground or up above....dislikes anything that moves....

To be walked up hills till February, no trot work what so ever ( I've told her about her behaviour in the field) but can be turned out!

Would you like my (rather large) bouncy ball of fluff???? As I think yours is incredibly handsome!

I did this ^^^ with my tb who is nutty at the best of times, but walking her in hand was like walking the Tasmanian Devil, and she just exploded out of sedalin with no warning

TandD mmmm think i may stick with my dumb-blood i dont get on with mares!!! But she does sound lovely :P!!!

Whats her injury? Best of luck with the hill walking i live in flat old fenland so no hills for me!!

Mmm handsome he is... biggest problem being he knows it!!!

I reckon they could all go on the long reins, with blinkers on and we could stand, well you lot could, on a skateboard behind them. I don't like the sound of this hill walking, blooming hard work isn't it ?

Tendon....... I hate walking, it gives them to much time to think of things to do with them selves!!!

I think to many warm bloods know they're beautiful..... It's a common fault and then they just use it as an excuse to show it off when walking

Oh it's alright, I'm not walking the hill with her (my dad is hehe) I'm on top instead!!!!
I'd need more than a skate board... More like a go kart, something low to the ground with a good centre of gravity!

TandD mind me asking which tendon shes done? Im really nosey for any tendon stories!! :) Mines torn his SDFT :(

Unfortunately it's not a happy one.... 3rd injury on the off fore sdft..... Mostly my fault through other rehabs and taking advice which I should have known better over! This time I'm doing the rehab my way!

good luck with your boy, hope he gets better for you!

My vets didn't recommend it at all ! I fully expected to have to walk him after his box rest .
However vets decided it was an incredibly bad idea after his little stay with them as was often across their yard towing two nurses whilst 8/10ths lame !!
My hyper pony however I did walk I expected trouble and brought him a chiffney especially ..... Never really needed it he was cool as a cucumber.
I have to admit I did think the vet had lost it when after 9months box rest he told me to get on him!

I'm feeling very lucky now. My share horse was a darling when he was on 6 months box rest. We started off just wandering round the car park on the end of a rope but after a few days just let him mooch about on his own. He never did a thing, he was too interested in the grass verges. He then got an electric fenced playpen in the corner of the field where he spent his days and was in at night. When it came to putting him back in the field we were really worried how he'd react the other horses again as he's always been a bit of a loner but he spent the first two days trying to get back into the pen! We took a section of the electric fence down so he could go back in there if he wanted and we'd find him in there quite frequently for about two months afterwards.
