and update their microchip info! Picked up an old dog wandering on the road this morning. No ID tags on, other people, vehicles or houses nearby and couldnt find anyone on the small section of footpath. She was friendly enough so stuck her in my footwell and drove down the hill to the B&B - she didn't recignose the dog at all. Drove round a bit (was late for work by this point) so went to the local wildlife centre as theyve got a scanner and its on the way to my office. Dog had a chip (yay) but the mobile number was disconnected and the home number wasn't the owners anymore.

Rang the local vets and animal shelter - no one had reported a dog missing by this point so was starting to think the worst. My mum then drove round the town closest to where I found her for two hours and stopped random people until she managed to find someone who knew the owner and he was able to pick her up from my work. Turns out he was on holiday from Scotland!

Thnk goodness she had an owner tho - staffy x bitch, old and arthritic would probably have only gone one way :( I can't have another one and with Sandy costing the parents a fortune they cant afford another one right now.
 
Yes I gave him the chip number and the phone number to call to change the info but he didn't seem too fussed - it was his sister in laws address apparantly but she didnt want the dog anymore so he took her on. He didnt seem too suprised when I said the person who answered the phone didn't want to know. I suggested he got some tags too as I could have just called his mobile number and delivered her without all the fuss.
 
I found a bloody gigantic great dane earlier this year who had a collar and tag but the number on the tag was for the local vet - what a huge inconvenience to them and me when he actually lived half a mile down the road from where I found him and I could have dropped him back at home! :mad:

They did say it was the third time he'd been brought in, he keeps escaping from the garden, straight on to a 60mph country road. :mad: The woman who had nearly hit him was in hysterics.

Good on you for your diligence though, if she'd gone to the dog warden I don't expect the owner would have made the effort to track her down and at that age and breed she'd be a goner. :(

ETA: I've gone a bit overkill with mine, Ricoh has a Petlog chip and I was so impressed with them while I was changing over the details that I paid to double register Dax's chip with them too. :o Tags on harnesses and collars with name, address and phone number and plastic "I am chipped" tags too. I would consider tattooing if it was more readily available, I wouldn't have the first clue how to go about it.
 
I'm overkill with Yellow Dog too :o Because I've moved around a lot and I'm often in areas with no mobile phone signal I rang the company and got them to add more detils against his record - there are now 5 mobile number, 3 landlines and 3 addresses for them to try :o He ate his please scan me tag tho :( Not that he can be bothered to stray - would take far too much effort :p

Collar with i am chipped tag, I am tottooed tag, standard tag as rquired by law and tag for a company called tracks that holds 4 lots of contacts and where we can add holiday address
